Name the phone or phones you had before the iPhone.

Just wondering where people coming from.

I came from a sidekick. Had those for a while, iPhone 3G came out and I bough it two months later used it with Tmobile. Edge was really slow so I switch to AT&T. Also owned a g1 only android phone I've used and hated.

How bout you ?

I was using an LG Venus (black, less girly looking version) on Verizon. LG phones leave a lot to be desired, even the really basic ones that aren't supposed to be able to do much like this one was.

I hated Verizon, and hated LG. Now I love AT&T and love my iPhone 4!

iPhone 4
BlackBerry Curve 8330
Palm Treo 650
Samsung A900 (The Sprint Razr before they got Razr)
SANYO MM7500 (had to Google that one, my first cell phone and it had Ready Link before Sprint merged with Nextel)

Before that, I occasionally used my brothers Startac. That was the pinnacle of cool back in the day.

The first cell phone I had was one of these (not Land rover branded though)

After that, I had far too many phones to list, but memorable ones are this one (which did video calling over 3G!):

And this one, which was one of the first Windows Smartphone phone available in the UK

This one was one of my favourites

But the phone I had immediately before the iPhone was this one:

The old world
Nokia 6630 (Symbian S60).

It had 3G, user-installable native apps (even OpenGL was supported), a "real" webbrowser, multitasking, decent battery life and even copy/paste - back in 2004, that is.

But even though smartphones before the iPhone could do even more things than the iPhone could when it came out, the iPhone's user interface was just so much superior to anything on the market at that time. It more than made up for the missing features (which are slowly but steadily coming to the iPhone as well with every new OS version, the only thing I'm really missing at the moment is a calendar overview on the homescreen).

The fact that by today every major mobile phone manufacturer has copied the iPhone's basic concept shows how big of a revolution it really was.

@Phil.A

Isn't the first phone a house phone ? o_O

No - it's bigger than that :D

I got it on August 1st 1989 when I was the tender age of 23 (I remember the date because it was also the date I got my first brand new company car and I had fitted into the car before I got it). The phone was known as a "transportable" because it was predominantly a car phone but you could unclip the innards from inside the boot and put them into that cradle and carry it around. It even came complete with a messenger style bag to carry it in over your shoulder! I only took it out and about once at a trade show and I felt such a dork that I never bothered again :D
