Hi to all,

I like this option (photo capture outside the frame) but sometimes my photos have it and sometimes not.

I am missing something on the setup?

Of course I’m using the wide camera...

Thanks!

Note that when you use this function you have to use the High Efficiency image format. Less quality and less ‘edit’able IMO.

I have high efficency enable.

My question is why in some photos Ihave this option and in others no.

I personally turn it off in Settings-Camera-Formats

Why? You loose the 1080 at 240 slow motion

If your camera detects you’re pointing it at a physically close subject then you lose the outside frame. I don’t know how else to explain it sorry.

I understand but why does do that? 90% of the time I am pointing to something close!

HE image quality is borderline trash IMO. Why have these amazing cameras and then remove lots of image data via compression?

there is an option in Composition where photos and videos capture outside the frame are: ''Auto-Apply Adjustments'', what does this mean? what is it auto applying?

If you have this option on for example if there's a human that you cut off in the frame it will automatically save the photo with the human that was in the frame.

okay, if there isn't any human, will the photo be saved anyway? (30 days)

No idea, I tried with humans and landscapes, with that option on and off and it works when it wants, I don’t get it.

Okay I’m getting more confused now so I can’t use the option outside the frame with Most compatible option but only high efficiency hmmm well I don’t think I will use that then bc I want my photos best quality so I’ll use the most compatible option and not worry about frames.

Yeah, I’ve just come to the conclusion that this feature is useless in current form. No telling if a photo will have it or not. At least I don’t have to feel bad switching to Most Compatible anymore.

My best guess is that it wasn’t working on photos indoors because the exposure on the super wide angle was too dark in comparison.

Honestly, I’d rather see a mode where every photo was taken with all 3 lenses for 30 days, allowing you to switch in the edit until then.

Or even better, now that portrait mode is better on non-humans, take both the standard photo and depth data to switch to portrait later.

I’m just never going to switch to portrait mode on an important photo because I’m still getting some wonky edges sometimes. But if a photo I already took happened to look good, that would be a win.

Agreed here I’m surprised this is not how it’s like ... maybe later on with more updates?

My only input on this is that it doesn’t work in lower light conditions.
Try it outside (if you haven’t already) and see if that works.

It doesn't include the portion outside the frame when viewing the photo - only in Edit mode, Crop, etc. Have you tried that? I just tried it and it worked, I was able to include the portion of the photo that was outside the frame when I cropped it.

Yes, when I go to crop nothing shows up. Can you try doing a QuickTake video to see if that works for you? I have NEVER gotten that to work

Ok I just figured it out. Go to a picture with a watermark in the top right that looks like a square with a star. Then go to edit and then crop and then you zoom in with your fingers and you can see the wide angle version quickly after.
