Step One: Get pic of LG Vu + Photoshop
Step Two: .....
Step Three: Profit

That French blog must have a ton of theoretical dollars....

I really like this design

That being said. It does have the tapered edges that iLounge has obtained from third-party case manufacturers.

It is however, a fake as anyone that has zoomed to pixel level can see. Furthermore, they omitted the serial no/IMEI below iPhone.

This design would replace mine on day one.

i like

If it was not plastic and it was scratch proof then I would really like this design. Maybe something like metalic black back...whatever just not plastic

Why so many threads on this.

The comparison photos show its just like the LG VU/Chocolate/Voyager or whatever.

It has the same profile curves and is remarkably similar, if not the same phone but photo shopped.

SO, do you honestly think apple with probably the most revered Industrial Design department in the World, headed by multi award winning, acclaimed, plaudited and god like genius Jonny Ive, would choose a current L G phone as the basis for the much hyped and anticipated 3G iphone???? I really don't think so.Think of the bragging rights, not to mention possible design infringment case, this would give LG. Apple copy our beautiful design for their blatant rip off which is the 3g Iphone 2.

NO NO NO, people get real. This is just stupid. What has macrumors become, I like a good rumour as much as the next man but to carry on this charade is idiotic.

As someone said this french blog is probably making a lot of money from this so there is method in their madness,

Iv'e not been to the site but I bet its plastered in Google adsense links.

If this is the real iphone I will not buy one and probably never buy another apple product again. I would rather a Zune.

Incredible the appetite for iphone 2 rumours that this O B V I O U S hoax has been given so much coverage.

I think the picture is fake.

Apple would never take a step in the wrong direction and say, "Hmm. Let's make it look more like a blackberry." That being said, people also said "Apple will NEVER call their new notebook 'macbook air'". So I really don't know. The only thing I do know is that the real 3G iphone will completely blow us away, just like the first one did!

I like that the screen dimensions relative to the size of the phone are larger in this 'mock-up' - but I'm 99% sure it's fake and would have an easier time believing it was a prototype design for the original (that would explain why it looks so darn beat up).

It just doesn't look like an Apple product to me, it's completely lacking the typical finesse we expect from their designs.. It's too boxy and generic looking.

The original iPhone design with the brush aluminum backing is definitely my favorite. It is totally unique and matches the "apple" format.

Please Steve - alter only slightly!!

i believe it is fake.

acutally, i believe any claim that apple will use plastic is fake, as El Jobso promised the world:

Apple plans to completely eliminate the use of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and brominated flame retardants (BFRs) in its products, and arsenic in the glass of flat-panel displays by the end of 2008.
source: http://www.apple.com/environment

umm... folks, this is 2008. PVC is by far the most durable of the plastics used in electronics and in plumbing even, and i believe apple will stay away from all plastic from an environmental standpoint. thats only my opinion though...

this also tells us that the macbook case will need to be redone, but thats a different thread all together/

I like the current iPhone design =(. Even the idea of glossy black backing (not necessarily this pic) sounds ugly.

What's gonna happen?

I already own an iPhone and it says in the March 6 event video that the 2.0 software update will be shipped in June. Does that mean I'll get a cool new phone or just an another update on my computer?

It's just a software update, hence, it will be on your computer. Way too expensive to give out new phones, and not really smart for apple either.

... for which you will pay money. Like the iPod touch apps package. However, to clarify, the software update will be delivered via iTunes, not via the iPhone itself.

You bought your phone, you own it. They don't take back your old MacBook Pro when they release a new one, why on earth would they take back your phone? You want a new generation iPhone? You're going to have to palm the old one off on someone else, ditch it, or hang onto it as a spare. Just like your computer.

P.S. Fake. And ugly. And very cheap looking. Screen looks more like plastic than glass, although that could just be the swirling/scratches. Apple is far better than this.

A Photoshop... and a BAD ONE too...

They didn't even bother to put in the effort to align the apple logo right and "clean" the "iPhone" logo.

I bet J. Ive laughs his arse off:D

That, plus given the fact that Steve is THE most demanding SOB in existence AND an industrial design MANIAC he would have kill Ive on the spot for such a plain, non - industrial design like that.

More over, in case you didn't notice apple follows a specific brand marketing of "greener" products. LED mercury free screens, aluminum, glass and generally, the "greener" your products are the better you can market them.

Don't worry it's just the usual before launch mock-ups that go around until apple once more kicks some serious butt...

Steve Jobs said at Macworld '08 that the iPod Touch apps upgrade is $20, but the iPhone upgrade is free.

A French blog posted these photos purporting to be the upcoming 3G-capable iPhone. The appearance roughly matches circulating rumors of a plastic backed iPhone.

The original article claims the photos were sent in from an anonymous source and that they have no idea if they are true or not. Typically "leaked photos" are rarely legitimate.

Amateur mock-up, at best. No chrome volume buttons, Apple logo and name are more pixelated than phone itself - looks like a paste job, rainbow highlights reveal a plastic front instead of glass - J Ive would not allow the iPhone design to be so cheap looking.

No big deal all manufacturers HAVE to do this as there are new ROHS guidelines for Europe which restrict what materials you can use. They aren't being proactive here, its a compliance thing.
