I went out for more shots of the black iris that has so mesmerized me.

A local hotel that tells you all you need to know:

It's the Highgate Hotel...

It was built in 1769...

It's 258 miles from London...

And 135 miles from Edinburgh...

And over the window is written: "To the dwellers in this place, God grante peace"...

A modern building would just say: 'You are 500 metres from the nearest McDonalds'... ;)

I love it!!!

You ask for C & C... so here goes...

I don't understand why you tilted the camera. I don't understand why more than half the image is occupied by an undistinguished stretch of Tarmac. I don't understand why you chopped off half the casino entrance (top right), but included a bit of railing (bottom left). It's presumably the composition you wanted, as it seems you used a tripod. So I'm

What equipment did you use? IS? Shutter?

I feel many times like the one laying down... :D

Haha don't we all :p,

Aperture Priority, f/6.7 for sharpness, at 1/1000s, ISO800 upped for shutter, 260mm (35mm eq:390mm). Body Shake reduction on.
Gotta stop your breathing for a moment ;)

Pentax K10D + Sigma 70-300mm gold ring (I assume that is different from red ring, I bought it used) + boat that got the gear quite wet...

Phrasikleia - IIRC, you are in nor cal, where we haven't seen much rain until last night. Are you using a spray bottle / mister type thing? I like the varying size of droplets - which is unlike what one would get from a higher volume stream of water.

Yeah, I started out shooting actual raindrops (following the long rainy period we had in early Spring), but raindrops are always so large and sparse. That can be nice in same cases, but for delicate flower petals, I wanted lots of little tiny droplets. So I bought a really fine-nozzle spray bottle and am having a lot of fun with it. Next I'm going to purchase an eye dropper so I can experiment with large, carefully positioned droplets and reflections in them. :)

Thanks!

I admire people with Pentax cameras (especially in today's digital realm ;) ). Reminds me of getting my first SLR as a gift in High School, a K1000...

Congratulations. My advice: take as many pictures as you can, you won't regret it. Don't worry, he'll grow into his skin one day!

Ginger-haired girl, levitating...

Far from me to pass any negative comments on your Sterling work, but your recent shots of buildings have been a revelation but your blurry people have kind of bugged me. I really prefer your people to be sharp like this. But I am just an untrained dissenting voice....

Btw why the two post boxes? One local and the other regional sorting office? What's the chances they both end up in Carlisle anyway?

Here's a picture I took at the Lincoln Park Zoo here in Chicago today (technically yesterday since it is after midnight). We had our first 80 degree day today and as a bonus I had a vacation day. The wife and I went to the zoo to test out the used (new to me) camera I bought from a friend last week. So here's one of the better shots I had today, it is a warthog that decided to take a mud bath (I think that is normal for them). Enjoy!

Tonemapped w/ 3 RAW (-2, even, +2.) Even firing off a three-shot bracketing burst, there was movement in the water, sometimes a lot of movement in the boats. Using more than a single image is a tricky compromise, but I'm playing around to see where it might be useful... and trying Photomatix out.

Kayes, that's a lovely shot! Where do you take your butterfly macros?

I was out taking pics as part of my photography club assignment ("perspective" was the theme) and I looked up. The sky was just too good to pass up, so I started taking a few shots.
