I know that look: that ‘trying to appear intelligent’ look. ;) Great pic...

99% of flower pix leave me unmoved... but this is beautiful. Such simple shapes, and harmonising colours. Have you seen Robert Mapplethorpe's flower pix??

I have the same lens and am sometimes still awestruck by the clarity and crispness that thing has wide open....

It's definitely a great lens. Mine is probably 9-10 yrs old, and looks a little banged up, but the glass is still like new. I replaced the zoom rubber ring, and it feels nice and tight. Sure, there's no VR (IS for Canon users) but you can buy one for $750 in excellent condition or $1200 new, compared to $2300 for the new 70-200. You can get lots of good glass for the difference in price, like the 300 f/4 ED, another classic prime lens which sells for $450-500 in exc. condition. Both are really good at gathering the light, tones and color, and even though they were designed for film, they can both produce really nice digital images.

Thanks...:D You nailed it!! Definitely trying to act like there's something more up in the paddock than a bunch of sheep running around..

BTW: must be my browser, but your last image didn't load completely... hmmm.
edit: Nevermind... now it's loading. Very nice. I like the light with the foreboding clouds in the background. Another great example of capturing a sense of place...
Where do you find these toy villages?? Absolutely delightful to think places like this exist, and you captured it perfectly!!

Really would like to get rid of the slight grey cast. But my lack of aperture knowledge makes it a little difficult.

Scanned from home processed 120 film.

mcavjame, that background looks like a painting; it's lovely.

First, let me say this is absolutely beautiful. As Fujiko7 said, very painterly. The colors are just a lovely combination!

Thanks for the feedback. I had been trying to get some interesting backgrounds for the macros and noticed that the trees provided a nice OOF area in another pic I had captured. I think the painterly look comes from the overlapping branches that help to break up the solid blue of the sky.

A true addendum - I was laying down on the ground to get a good angle on the tulips and waiting for the light to be right. My neighbour came over to check if I had a heart attack or passed out. Nice that she was concerned.

Thanks, Doylem. No I haven't seen Mapplethorpe's flowers, but I have seen "other" subject matter from him. I'll check them out.

My first attempt at any photo manipulation. I'm a real photoshop newb and find the program to be extremely overwhelming, which is weird because I'm excellent with computers. Anyway, obviously it's a multiplicity shot; any and all C&C welcome.

sunset by our lake (huge). the piers for the boats are still empty as the ice is just melting and spring is slowly coming.

Sometimes you don't need photoshop to add effects to images. Sometimes nature helps you out.

I really like this black and white treatment here. The texture is perfect, and the rain gives it that something extra. It does seem just a little bit leaning to the right... barely by maybe a degree or so. If that were just nudged a bit straighter in PP it would be perfect. Maybe it's just my own crooked vision... ;)

Thanks for the C&C, much appreciated. I'll take your advice and look into changing the direction of the rain. :)

Haha... good one! Actually, I was referring to the building. ;) But, if you can figure out how to change the direction of the rain, I won't stand in your way... :) I still really like your photo.
