First of all, thank you all for the kind words. I have next to no clue what I'm doing when I'm shooting (yet), as I'm still learning the more technical things. I have an idea about the SS/Aperture/ISO triangle and a few things here and there, but I am just learning how to shoot better.

Today's shot:

Hopes of Spring!

This is the absolute worst winter in the New England states ... I am disenchanted by any more snow and look forward to some warmth...

I keep going back to this iris ... the rich colors of spring popping out against the monotone stalks that feels so much like winter. I'm really glad you took the extra effort to keep the hint of color in the back flower as well. My 3" high daffodils were buried in 8" of snow on Thursday. It's all gone now, but I, too, and waiting for spring to arrive in New Hampshire!

I have a bird picture! Yay! Thanks to the extreme kindness of a friend, I'm getting to use his 70-200mm L while I'm on vacation this week.

Photo from a shoot today. Getting better at paying attention to my framing for the most part, and really loving my Sigma 50.
BTW That is a cool pic above me!

Great shot and sky. The exposure is right on the ball for the sky and the silhouetted trees add drama to the scene.

I'm usually not a big fan of bird shots involving human accessories, such as the table and chairs, but this one is just stunning. You exposed the bird perfectly as there are tons of details in the feathers, and the color separation from the background makes the bird standout.

Another great shot, and cute little girl. I love the vignetting around the framing as it draws my eyes towards the girl. Maybe lowering yourself a bit to be at her eye level would also make a good picture ?

Nice, peaceful photo. The soft tones perfectly match the sleeping dog.

Great colours on this one. Do you think it would look even better cropped slightly?

Charming photo. You've clearly built a rapport with the subject.

OK, here's mine for today. This was taken with iPhone using the Hipstamatic app. It was taken on the cliffs just north of Bude, in Cornwall, this past weekend. Some on this board may consider this "gimmicky", especially with the "aged" look of the framing, but I think this one worked pretty well. I would appreciate any c&c on this.

This my favorite lamp. It has been in my family for 30+ years. I have taken dozens of photos of this lamp. I used vignette to focus on the lamp and the colorful display on the wall.

Specs: Canon 60d, iso 320, shutter speed 1/50, 0EV, 30mm, f/4, and lens EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
