Land Between the Lakes in KY is a large, protected area between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. One section of it is a bison and elk refuge that you can drive through. If you get lucky, you can get really close for some good pictures.

This baby was so young it still had some umbilical cord hanging from its belly. They were headed right for our van, too. They ended up walking within a few feet of us - too close to use my 70-200mm.

There's a buffalo park a few hours from me. When my sister and I were kids, my family went there for a little bit. The buffalo were inside a big, fenced-in area. For some reason, my sister decided to yell "Hey stupid!" to the closest one. It, of course, charged us. Fortunately, the fence was strong enough to stop him. I was scared of buffalos for a while after that, but got over it.

Wonderful shot Peter!

My second ever attempt at light trails - just taken an hour ago. This time I turned the IS off as recommended in my other thread, and the result was a tack sharp image (and there I was worrying my lens was faulty :D)

I didn't even think about IS, I only have one lens with it and I very rarely use it on a tripod but always switch it off if I do. Glad it's worked out for you.

Black Swan, shot today along the River Torrens Linear Pathway in Adelaide. ISO 200, f/4, 1/180th sec, 75mm. Olympus OM-D E-M5, Olympus 75mm f/1.8.

Nice capture, I gave up on the bats and others behind glass in there, but did get the guys not behind glass. The camera I had at the time I was there last couldn't cope with high ISO's and near darkness, high ISO's with adequate illumination it was ok with, like the following picture.

I used to keep these guys as pets, they are Spinifex Hopping Mice, and I'm a little disappointed I didn't get the fluffy tip of the tail in this shot. I ended up with about 50 of them in a 4 foot tank and donated the setup to the Nature Education Centre, who lend them out to schools around the city. This is taken under infrared lighting, hence the colour. It looks good in B&W, but I like it this way too.

The bat was tough. I'm still an amateur so it is all new to me. IR lighting definitely produces very strange results. Neat kangaroo looking mouse. I'll be going to Monarto Zoo this weekend, so maybe there will be some more interesting shots.

Oh yeah??? Well, how about a bison up close! ;) Scary close, actually. I was a bit nervous about having the window rolled down to take this shot. I was at 100mm on my 70-200mm lens and Canon 60D to fill the frame. That's not very far away...

Last week I had a "rat... up close" event that I didn't want. The cat came in from outside carrying a still living brown rat. My wife chased it out from behind a piece of furniture into a cooler I had waiting to trap it. I then returned it to the outside world. Somehow I forgot to take a picture of it before releasing it. It was pretty cute, really, but it was still a rat...

I really liked these exposed tree roots, but in hindsight feel like I should have focus stacked this to get it super crisp all the way through the picture.

Doylem, John, Hankster & Rowbear...thank you for the comments on my chipmunk shot. :)

This is a White-tailed doe that crept-up behind me while I was waiting quietly for something to happen in the marsh in front of me.

Arrived just in time to catch the golden hour sun on The Three Sisters.
This is in the Blue Mountains region, NSW - a bit over an hours drive west of Sydney.

Love the 180 degree panorama here Joe, pity no one is playing chess though. There's nothing like playing giant chess. :)

Looks like you got there at just the right time, they are set off beautifully by the shadows behind.

It looks really nice on my 27" iMac as a background image.

That's gorgeous Keleko, nice clean and crisp detail.

After a all too long hiatus from taking any pictures, I took off for a few days of just me and my camera. It felt good.

Good to see you back fcortese.

A focus stacked shot from me today, just a modest twelve parts to this one. Taken outside when it was really windy on my travel tripod, rather hurriedly shot as we had to leave the park in about 30 seconds to go pick up son #3! I found these seed heads and arranged them on a park bench to do this.
