Stunning sky.

BTW as nuwomb pointed out in another shot, there appears to be quite a bit of sensor dust all around there.

Thanks. Also for pointing out the dust. I must have blamed my dirty computer screen... (@#*$#$ kids :) )
I will get the rocket blower and the healing tool to fix it.

... I went to Point Reyes looking for whales. Didn't see any, but saw a lot of Elephant Seals, ..."

I have seen as many as ten whales at once from the platform just above this pictured light-house light mechanism.

Whale spotters delight: The herds are just now off Santa Cruz, California and sightseeing excursions there are doing a brisk business. The blue & humpback herds will now move a bit further north toward Point Reyes and then Mendocino as this latest weather change turns sunny and warmer. Today 70+ F. just off shore with a warming trend. (Lots of dolphins in the SF Bay this last weekend.)

Nice image, although personally I find the bokeh in this one a little distracting.

Thanks for your comment. The bokeh on the nifty-fifty can be a bit harsh wide open with specular highlights in the out of focus background... one of the shortcomings of this little lens. :) That was one of the things that I went back and forth with on this, and other images before posting it. Definitely the sparkly type highlights are the trickiest ones for lenses to deal with in the bokeh.

Cheers. :)

Spectacular! The colors are so rich and deep. Nice use of ND filter. Point Vincente Light must be one of the most beautiful sites in the Los Angeles area...

This evening around 6PM we had a rainbow. From my back porch:

Most everyone uses DSLRS which can begin around $500 up to $2500 for consumer to prosumer models. Also, lots of additional lenses beyond the "kit" lenses are used here, as well as additional lighting (external flashes, reflectors, etc). Which leads into: Its not the camera, its the guy/gal behind it.

My specific kit is:
Canon Rebel T1i (when I got it ~$750)
Lenses I use the most right now are the Canon 20mm f/2.8 (I think $430?) and the Canon 28-135 IS zoom lens (I think $400?).
I use a basic Manfrotto tripod ($130)
I'm learning so my lighting is stuck at natural light for now, gonna add an external Canon flash (approx $250) once I get it down a little more

Thats just me, I'm learning, others can add more

Seaside Lamp at Night

This was a lot of fun to take, it's originally in colour, but it was far more dramatic in B&W.

Canon EOS 1000D
125s
f/3.5
18 mm
ISO400

The best way to learn is a lot of folks put their capture settings underneath their pics, that lets you know their equipment, aperture, shutter speed, etc.
That way you can replicate what they did while you're practicing.

well, before I can practice..I may need to acquire a better camera haha..

as of now, I have a Panasonic DMC-FS15..it's a Panasonic Lumix branded, 12 megapixel camera..hardly a pro tool.

The pleasures of sea-fishing...

How can can it get better for a guy... a cuddly female on his arm, a beer... and a pole in the water? I'd say you've captured the ultimate bliss there. ;)

Am I imagining things... or is that the the low, foreboding intro to John William's theme from "Jaws?"

One thing to always keep in mind with lighting and portraits -- the background. It can either make... or break your shot. In fact one very successful portrait and wedding photographer I know who loves off camera lighting and dramatic images swears the background is the most important element of a successful portrait... not everyone may agree

This was shot in Marquette, Michigan. I am not really happy about the shot but I like the light from the left and the aura around the buck's antlers. I had to zoom in my handheld Powershot S5 IS with very little time so bear with me :) Any CnC is well-appreciated.

I actually like this shot a lot--as is... love the moment as he's sneaking away. It actually speaks to me perhaps even more than it might if you had captured him posing perfectly for you...
