Cooling off on a hot summer day...

I'm sad to say that the inner and outer walls are curved .....
though ManhattanPrjct's conjecture of impending structural failure caused by the extremely obese is far more entertaining !!!

Hahahaha. After working with many, many 400-600 lb patients (can you imagine them naked?), I'm drawing up very vivid imagery of this scenario playing out in my mind.

I took this in the Rocky Mountain National Park. I think the person gave great scale to the picture.

Model: NIKON D60
ISO: 200
Exposure: 1/400 sec
Aperture: 10.0
Focal Length: 40mm

Absolutely beautiful photo! You are perfectly right about the human scale as well. Outstanding!

well, before I can practice..I may need to acquire a better camera haha..

as of now, I have a Panasonic DMC-FS15..it's a Panasonic Lumix branded, 12 megapixel camera..hardly a pro tool.

I am using a consumer Canon PowerShot S5 IS 8 MP, but I am VERY VERY happy with it. I cannot afford spending 1000+ on DSLR + Lenses like some of these guys. If you can afford DSLR, I would definitely buy a nice DSLR as the images come out better in general --- of course if you are a complete photo newbie (like myself), maybe a DSLR is over-kill but that's up to each person.

I have some friends who got DSLRs and they got lens-addicted and that was an expensive addiction :).

Good luck

Thanks a lot! Here's a another mountain pic I took on a hike a couple weeks ago.

I took this shot of Torreys Peak from the nearby Grays Peak. I really liked the colors that I was able to get out after a little playing around in Aperture. I think the size and depth of the picture really come out when you notice the people on the trail.

Both your mountain shots are really nice... this one would really look great blown up really big so you could just follow that trail right up to the summit and see all the hikers at the top and along the way... Nice detail and depth.

First time I ever tried this, saw everyone's so I thought I would try. I like long exposures, it's becoming addicting. Took some sky photos last night and they turned out pretty neat too.

"Tiki T"

Her name is Tequila, a.k.a. "Tiki Tila" (or "Tiki T" for short.) I got her from a dog rescue sanctuary in Baja about 5 years ago. I was out shooting with the 300f/4 and the dogs were moving around really quickly in their 'hunting' mode, but I did manage to catch her standing still for a second or two, although a bit closer than I'd have liked. :)

^Nice work Phil, I like it. The frame, lighting, pose all work great.
The green background adds a nice contrast.
A bit more dof may have been better, but I see you were already at ISO800 ... and it's not easy to keep track of fast dogs in "hunting" mode :)
On second thoughts it does put a nice emphasis on the concentration evident in the eye.

Child watches sunset

It was at sunset and I saw the opportunity. He does not like his picture taken so I snuck up behind him and got off this shot before he saw me. :) CnC appreciated.

Been wanting to post here for a month or two. My first post:

Took this on Sunday afternoon. Have a crystal ball that I use sometimes in my photos. Used selective coloring to give color only to the sphere.

Birdie need a laxative?

dbales, thats a really cool shot. Another cool idea I've seen people do that is similar to yours is take an old manual, prime lens, perch it up on something, and shoot through it getting an effect similar to your crystal ball.
Be careful on how you use that ball, all the magic balls are not accounted for, Sauron could be watching... (sorry, I kinda like LOTR, had to throw that in)

Pentax K10D - 1/90s - f/0.0 - ISO100 - 50mm (75mm equiv)

Great color! I just keep staring at the picture looking at the depth and texture the water brings. Did you see the leaf and take the picture or did you add the water to fit an idea you had?

Nice picture with great detail. I need to get a lens that allows me a better ability at capturing living things (and get me practicing, I stink at it right now). My manual focus 50mm just doesn't cut it hence all my landscape shots.

I always like interesting art shots like this because they help me think about how to be more creative. The angle of the shot makes me feel I'm a part of the shot and not just viewing the picture. Very nice.

In general these threads always have a lot of great pictures and ideas. I love looking through them and learning :)
