Fishing in Livingston, MT

Hey Phrasikleia, thank you for your detailed comments. I spent some time cleaning up the branches and played with the lightness on the spot that you mentioned in Photoshop and I see the huge difference it made to the image!

That's quite an amazing transformation! The photo is very much improved. Thanks for sharing the redo! :)

Mine for today…I shot this one last October while I was out on a scouting mission to find locations for future photography outings. I spent the entire day driving around by myself through areas I had never before visited, just taking note of the scenery and occasionally stopping to snap a reference shot or two. The funny thing is that I ultimately got so horribly lost that I didn't even know which country I was in. I remember at some point driving past a sign telling me that I was exiting Italy and exclaiming out loud, "Leaving Italy?!! When did I ever enter Italy?!!" I'm not sure whether I stopped for this photo before or after that revelation, so I couldn't tell you where the heck I was when took it. I have no idea!

Conditions must have been just right last Tuesday as these guys were all over the place , usually they're under leaves and out of sight...

That is an awesome story!

The image sort of reminds me a little of some of the villages I saw on my recent trip to Italy, but the fact that it's a mystery just adds to the allure of the image.

Thank you for all the inspiration you give me with your amazing shots!

I just want to echo that that is a phenomenal photo. Very atmospheric while bordering between beautiful and foreboding. In all my time lurking here, your photos are always a highlight!

My photo for today features a fine-feathered friend who hopped out of a pond and immediately started shaking and ruffling its feathers to dry itself off. I was actually photographing the sunset at the time and managed to catch it mid-ruffle.

Integrated gps and geo tagging is pretty neat. You'll never "forget" where that shot came from.;)

Here's mine for today. It was shot at Rattlesnake Lake near Seattle

My solution to the "where the hell am I?" problem is a tiny voice recorder, which never leaves my pocket. Very lo-tech (and all the better for it... ). I buy them on eBay for about $10. Pic locations, shopping lists, writing ideas, funny things I overhear... this is my lifeline!

Thanks for your kind words, rymack. In hindsight, it does make a good story, but I remember feeling pretty frustrated at the time!

That's really kind of you to say, emtrey. I love your description, "beautiful and foreboding." Maybe that's why I'm so smitten with fog and mist; the fact that it's a bit scary makes it extra exciting, I suppose.

Yeah, I don't think my cameras have that feature, but now I'm starting to understand why someone might actually want it. I spent a good half hour in Google Earth yesterday trying to retrace my steps and figure out where I took that photo...no luck. I cannot find that spot for the life of me, which is going to make keywording it very 'interesting'. :(

I did have a GPS in the car that day, but it's hard to watch the GPS and scout out landscape opportunities at the same time...at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

What a great idea. And there's even an app for that! And I already have it too...now if I can just remember to use it...

Love the mist! ;) And I looove autumn, so I hope you're right that it's coming soon.

Old man fishing

I'm going to start taking portraits of interesting people I meet to work on approaching subjects. I met this old timer while fishing and he was probably the reason I caught so many fish that day.

Great Pic

Depressingly good, maybe you should move up to Medium format, that way I can claim its only the camera that makes your photo's that good!

-----------

The Lincolnshire wolds, I spent a couple of hours up there on sunday, and despite the fact is summer in the UK still had it all to myself, ... they must be right up there as one of the least visited designated areas of outstanding natural beauty in England....

It was shot a little before sunset last April on our trip to Cabo San Lucas. I should have fresh new material as we are traveling to the Olympic Peninsula this weekend.

Any of you have any recommendations as shooting opportunities?
