I'm guessing you guys wouldn't experience all that much humidity down there in SA, more dry outback air? We've had a few hot ones up here. I can live with a few 45C days fine (113F for our American friends) - it's mainly the humidity factor on even the (relatively) cooler days that makes things a little unpleasant for some people at times up here (all the moist equatorial air moving down the coast).

We get the odd days of 60%+ humidity and that wipes out everyone!

I lived up on the North coast of NSW for about 3 months of Summer back in 2005 and the humidity doesn't really wipe me out like it may others. That was the subtropics though, I gather you are up in the tropics?

Good colour replacement here, I'm assuming that's what you did, nice and abstract.

Not quite. We have this structure on one of the main street here in town.

I initially thought it was the shadow of a structure of some kind that you had filled the blanks of with colour.

Now, I like it even more! I love the addition of art into public places, especially when incorporated into the mundane things around us, like bollards, street lights, seating, hand-rails, fencing, pedestrian screens, public transport shelters, etc.

Thanks for the clarification.

Ah right, that's fair brutal.
I'm actually a bit below Sydney, which isn't really higher than you at all... :p

It's been a while since I've posted, so I thought I would share this shot I got recently.

Shot this at f/5.6 with a 90mm lens. In hindsight, wish I'd stopped down a bit to give greater depth of field. I would have accepted a bit of grain (from the higher ISO) to have more of both cats in focus.

Also, the cat on the right is chocolate with darker spots. Need to play with shooting her with an orange filter to see if it lightens her base coat compared to the spots and thus increases contrast when shooting her in B&W.

The white area is a skylight in my bedroom ceiling. There was a wet snow with large snowflakes falling which put the cats into hunter mode :). They both got excited and provided a rare opportunity of the two of them together.

I've been asked to make an inviting photo for a gathering of violin students. It will be held at an small old church. My first try:

Sunset in White Rock, BC

Just discovered this thread, and thought I'd share my one pic of the day! Taken recently at the end of an actual sunny day here on the West Coast of BC! Not perfect (tripod would have helped), but the gull cooperated!

Panasonic GH2, ISO 640, f/9, 1/1300, 67mm, 14-140 lens (not renowned for its sharpness)

I seem to be dropping into the end of this conversation but I am out in Brazil at the moment and the heat is quite a challenge for me. Some moments it's really nice and I think I could live here for ever but when you get a sweat on it never seems to stop!

Wrapping up Carnival here!

Got back to the beach for sunset this evening and here's the result. From no cloud last time, to too much cloud this time! I did like the patterns in the clouds tonight though.

This composition is definitely an improvement. It's a bit tight at the bottom, but now the shapes of the illuminated benches recede nicely toward the overhang above them, which in turn sort of gestures out to the sky. It's nice how some of the lines in the clouds echo the lines of that roof.

Well done appie57! This is one of those photos that I keep coming back to as I say to myself: "I wish I had taken that shot". :)

Peter, i've loved the tonal ranges you have captured in your death valley pictures, something i'm trying to pay more heed to in my pictures of late, i'm reading and watching some lectures/tutorials about the zone system to try and help myself there.

Thanks very much John. I like to give credit where credit is due and I think Nikon hit the sweet spot for capturing tonal/dynamic range with the D600. I should also mention that I used a polarized filter for a number of the desert shots and the position of the sun was perfect to take full advantage of the filter.

Mine for today is the last one of the desert…for now.

It's been awhile since I posted a photo. I just returned from a trip to Yosemite National Park. Here's a shot from the El Portal entrance to the park. If it's Yosemite, there has to be at least one B&W photo. ;)

I would just like to say that you wonderful people of the MacRumors photography forum are very talented and inspirational photographers. After picking up the camera a little over a year ago, you all have inspired me to produce photographs that I never thought I could. More importantly, you have inspired me to keep the camera in my hands. For that, I thank you all!

Oh yeah, here's mine for the day.

appie57, this has some great tonal ranges to it and really nice subjects and interest for me. A nice capture.

Thanks folks! I was 'hunting' for an image during the chinese New Year celebrations here in town and everything looked bad until I discovered these two ladies and the steaming pot with the sun at the right angle. Took some shots and converted at home to b&w and additional PP to get rid of distracting objects at the edges and other tweaks et voilà. Never give up.

Yesterday I was more lucky during a harbour tour on a ship: weather was excellent and I took some (hand held) shots, choosing the 70-200 instead of a wide angle lens. Its heavy, it's expensive, but it's worth every penny. Just had to keep fast shutter speeds to combat the ships movement and my trembling hands :)
