From January 2021. Probably last time we had any good light!
Beautiful story!View attachment 2478417
Approximately 1919, my wife’s grandmother was working with the French Red Cross as a 19-year-old volunteer in the catholic church which was being used as a hospital, just short of the German line in the village of Bruyeres, as the Germans advanced on the village she had to evacuate, she took this crucifix from the church and took it back to France. Her grandmother married an American solder and they moved to the US. When she passed, the crucifix was given to my wife, who protected it for some 25 years. My wife decided the crucifix, that dates from 1700 should be repatriated to the village of Bruyeres and the church that it was taken from. This was accomplished in 2023 and is now residing back in the village.
