It was built by the King Louis XIV's finances minister Fouquet who made the mistake to invite the king to the inauguration of the castle, which was magnificent and full of masterpieces and beautiful art.
The king was suspicious of how his finance minister could have had such a great fortune to spend, suspicion fomented by the jealous minister J.B. Colbert who arrested Fouquet and got his ministry of finance . After that event King Louis XIV ordered the construction of Versailles: the king couldn't have a smaller and less magnificent castle than his own ministers.
