Nothing too exciting today, just a bee I spotted on a dandelion while walking through the backyard:

If I might offer a simple critique, in general you want to avoid the center AF point for most life forms and give them room to "look" into, so if the insect was a little to the left, the composition would be much better. Personally, because of the diagonal orientation, I'd have put it slightly lower and more to the left. If you crop it that way, I hope you'll see what I mean.

I took a walk yesterday and came back with this:

@mcavjame:
Fantastic photo! :) Seems like he is waiting for the rain to stop or something, really great atmosphere in the shot.

Hi, Happy New Year all :)
Got my first background, tried it out with some makeshift lights (still not happy with lighting, flash and shadows, next purchase....) Will also iron it next time.:rolleyes:

Picture not as sharp as I would have hoped, also now regularly using RAW.

Spray water on it and stretch it before it dries, that'll help a lot. So will increasing the subject to background distance. Finally, for high-key blow the heck out of the background (preferably with a flash) and the wrinkles won't show at all. Combine the three and you'll be happy.

I'd probably do "portrait" orientation too, so you can lose the extra background- but that's a "season to taste" kind of thing.

Finally, babies are about the only place you get get away with sharp in a portrait, don't sweat it, it's plenty sharp enough and the grin makes it.

Good shot- I'd close the squiggly white line out at the back of his head- but very carefully so it enlarges well!

Thanks... good tip to look out for in the future. I must admit I am struggling to remember my photo training from art school 20 *cough* plus years ago. I have been lulled into the world of point and shoot that it is fun to play again.

BTW - checked out a few pics from your link and they are impressive. Love the Sunflower shot.

I didn't realize the 370Z was already out on the streets. Better hurry up and sell my 350Z then!

Nice shot.
