Something I'd never seen before -- the usually perpetual motion machine-like Hooded Mergansers actually sitting still! This couple was relaxing on the ice and catching a few rays of sunshine before heading back into the water for more fishing.

took some photos of my 85 1.2 that I'm thinking about selling, I love this lens but it so big and awkward on the little R body that it feels uncomfortable to hand hold, so I think I'm really going to let it go because I don't want to have to drag out the tripod every time I want to use the lens

Thank you! The colors of the water surrounding them really adds something, doesn't it? Primarily due to reflections of the waterfront houses that are nearby. Yes, I'm rather chuffed that I was able to see these two sitting out there and to capture an image of them. This was the first time in the several years I've been watching Hooded Mergansers that I'd ever seen any of them just sitting quietly, never mind having the opportunity to catch a glimpse of their feet or legs, and it looks as though they have yellow legs and/or feet....

Both of these two are sitting pretty completely on their legs and feet, hiding them from view, but one can catch a glimpse of orangish-yellow something which is probably a leg..... Hooded Mergansers do fly, of course, and a few times I have seen them in flight but just as they do when they are in the water, they move very, very quickly so I haven't had a good look at the feet and legs.

I made this photograph at Ocean Beach, in San Francisco. I cut mats and frame my own prints. And make my own frames from various hardwoods for color prints (or, from lengths of black gallery stock I cut/glue/clamp for B&W prints). I made this particular frame from Maple and Cherry woods. I still need to purchase glass from a store, though. :)
You don’t make your own glass?! But sand is so cheap!

Shooting with the Sunny 16 rule. On full manual - used the meter to check my guess at the exposure. At times spot on - most 2/3 - 1 stop off my guess-timate. Waiting at a traffic light, saw this fellow coming towards me off to my left. Stopped him and asked for a photograph.

Edit: this area in the photograph is not well-lit. Opened up the f/stop to compensate.
