I had to get up at 5:15am on Tuesday to catch this one, but it was worth it. This view made me feel like the world was my oyster...

Beautiful. I love the way the mountains make three distinct planes. Digital certainly makes it easy to capture images (on a typical day out I might shoot, say, 400 pix, which I’ll edit down to 75: a way of shooting that would have been prohibitively expensive in the days of film), but it can also mean amassing huge numbers of ‘OK’ images. So it makes more sense than ever to get up earlier, walk a bit further, carry a tripod and be prepared to wait... and wait... to get that special shot.

I had an enjoyable walk yesterday. I had my camera, and the weather was ‘sunshine and showers’, but the pictures didn’t come. Never mind...

Thanks for the comments xStep, Fujiko7, VirtualRain, fcortese, and Doylem. :) To answer your question, Fujiko7, it's in Italy, just above Cortina d'Ampezzo. Doylem, a nice summary of the strategy; if it weren't for your frequent reminders, it might have taken me a lot longer to learn it. There was a time when the idea of "waiting" did not sound the least bit exciting to me, but then I actually tried it. Hopeless addiction ensued...

Maldives Sunsets

One of my only sunsets so far, hope to improve the count.....

Well worth it, and a big vote (11 so far ) on this one.

I almost decided on a trip to the Cortina d'Ampezzo area later this fall, but I'll go to Paris instead for a different kind of scenery.

Again, magnificient image. Just the kind I like and thanks for sharing your immense talent with us mere mortals ;)

My humble efforts at photography

Whilst out with the family and the dog we thought we were going to caught by the weather. Luckily, we made it home before it...

Just a summer afternoon in the Midwest. Taken with an iPad (3rd Generation) with a tiny bit of iPhoto editing to bring more of the colors out.

Lutheran peace church in Jawor, Poland.

slovakia0057.jpg

From wikipedia: The Churches of Peace in Jawor and Świdnica in Silesia were named after the Peace of Westphalia of 1648 which permitted the Lutherans in the Roman Catholic parts of Silesia to build three Evangelical churches from wood, loam and straw outside the city walls, without steeples and church bells. The construction time was limited to one year. Since 2001, the two remaining churches are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

A rather 'Doylemesque' church interior, oblomow. ;) Nice light and lots of character. Am I seeing this wrong, or are the pews not facing the apse? They seem to be turned toward each other instead of toward the pulpit.

Aww, you're very sweet. The comments here are really putting on the pressure for me to live up to them. I look forward to seeing your shots from Paris. :)

Amazing. Was this a single exposure? I've love to know what your method is for processing.

Thanks, fitshaced. Yes, it's a single exposure. The sun was behind some thick clouds, so the scene was a lot flatter than you might think, plus I used my usual, trusty 3-stop ND grad. That combo ensured that there was no clipping on either end of the histogram. I actually had to increase the contrast in that one.

As for my processing, I'm always happy to blather on about it and have done so quite a bit on this forum. I think a lot of what people assume is processing is actually the result of filters I use (CPL and GND, mostly), but I do sometimes combine exposures, always selectively with layers in Photoshop (using Smart Objects and masking). My other secret weapon is selective color balance adjustment. I didn't use it on this last photo, but I do on a lot of them. I had a lot to say about all of this in a reply to a question from TheReef last year, so I'll just provide a link to that post: here.
