Another attempt of food photography. Tried to apply everything everyone told me about my previous attempts. C&C would be very welcome.

The angle of your light isn't working here- from the reflection off the glass to the hot spots on the food. Try a different camera/lighting angle. There is also too much white space in the middle. The eye is drawn naturally to the brightest spot in the image, so what you really want is to either use that to start the eye into the food, then arrange the food so that it picks up the eye and leads it around the plate, or use it to surround the food and lead the eye into the center of the frame. The edge of the table and background at the top left lend nothing to the image- they shouldn't be there. You should be building a landscape with the food- show me a river leading into some hills with a mountain in the background, a city street with a park and building- or look at the photography in some food magazines are start by emulating their arrangements- food arranging is a definite skill, and you need to start with what works before you can start to branch out. Pay special attention to lines, colors, space, subject distance and lighting when looking at samples.

I'd probably have gone with some fill from behind and camera left too- to add some dimension and clean up the sharp overhanging shadows some. I'd defintely not gone with the hole in the meat that's front center, and probably have taken most of the grease off everything and selectively added moisture back in to make things glisten in point spots.

I find the light enchanting... the more I look at it. The slightly darkened moodiness of it suggests an unsettled, unpredictable day, where scattered gloominess dances around with those fleeting moments of pure lightness.

Thanks. The light is certainly strange at the moment: very bright, clear and piercing, though the landscape is still yellow-brown.

Here's a little Canon Gear Pr0n from the Canon booth at WPPI this last week. Shot on the 17mm TS, tilted.

C&C welcome as always.

Amateur mistake, I had been out shooting stars the night before and forgot to turn my ISO down :p I guess it turned out alright since it was shot hand held and probably would've been blurry otherwise.

First, thanks too all for participating in POTD. Many great images here...:)

Cool shot! What was the light source?

Thanks :)

I was looking to buy some LED pens to use for light painting photography but you know that 'there's an app for that' lol.

I think its called light painting or something :)

Hope this helps :)

nice shot! Sunsets have been so beautiful lately. That picture is pretty similar to the one I posted in this thread a day or two ago.

I'm not going to comment on the photo as there have been some excellent suggestions. My only complaint would be that pdxflint's first paragraph has made me feel hungry!

What I'd really like to know, considering the food pictures you post, and your name, is what happened to the chicken whose picture you posted recently?! :)

I echo the comment that there are a lot of great photos here... you folks inspire me!

The idea is good, but...

I don´t really know what it is but something is not working, different angle ?

or some different light ? what would be nice is to see some more of the car, just the shape, and to have like a cold effect. I think it should be possible to evoque a monster given the shapes of the car, and the inspiration of it´s design.
Try to ad some light source in the back or side of it ?

In this light the BMW looks almost like a Renault  - a big smile on the front.

In contrast I think that shot works well although two very low powered speedlights either side might improve it slightly. :)

A lot of power poles were snaped off during the sleet storm recently here on the avalon, newfoundland.
