I really like this shot Jason. Colors, contrast, lighting, the texture of his tattoos and her dress ... it really works. Nicely done.

Is there a reason that the fellows arm is cropped off?

Gotta admit - Cedar City, UT is the last place I'd expect to see a fellow so adorned with body art!

That was photographer stupidity. :D I wish the framing was better for my shot, it would have been so much better. Oh well. Still wanted to share, I still really like it fwiw.
btw there is some cool ink studios around here ! Surprising huh? I got a Japanese dragon and some kanji on one side and stars up the other :D

Are you really sure what the Knaji says?? You don't want to be  if you show it of to a Japanese friend...

In regards to your framing on the last few people shots you have posted, cropping off body parts has been something that I've noticed as well. Wedding and studio photography is all about making people look great. Sharpen up that skill and it will serve you well.

My favorite shot with my new Sigma 50 even though it's a little soft. 1/30th shutter(F/1.4 too) for some odd reason, when I had plenty of play left in the camera, shot this at like ISO 160. Photographer stupidity at it's finest.

A little fill flash to create some catchlights in the eyes wouldn't have been amis either.

Oh yeah definitely. I had just brought my camera into class take some test shots of the lens. Had to check that auto focus, since it's always a little suspect on the Sigma's but this is a manual focus shot. Sadly I don't have like an off camera flash yet. Pop up flash kind of blows. Or I haven't really mastered the art of pop up flash. Probably the latter. IDK.

Would it be more interesting if his right hand was a little higher...? ;)

Happy St. Patrick's Day picture for today. I felt like going all artistic with it. If I didn't do that, then it is just a boring picture of grass and a clover.

On camera flash is not great, but it's often better than nothing- just dial in somewhere between 1-2 stops of negative flash compensation, I'd probably start at around 1.3 stops and see how that looks. How much to dial in changes with distance and the amount of ambient light, but you really just want a tiny bit of fill and the catchlights in the eyes.

Looking back over the past few pages there's some outstanding work being posted, great work all!
A few stood out to me:

Simple yet intriguing, people walking, a skateboard and a hill - oh the anticipation... what is at the top and what is to happen...

Mine for today... from last summer's archives, since I've been somewhat dormant the last couple of weeks or so...

You've really captured the emotion in the eyes here.
Well executed photo - great composition, sharp, well lit with nice background separation, well done!

Nice contrast here, the intense yellow really jumps out against the blue and the with the interesting choice of background. Great work.

and yet another from this weekend's visit to Loreto ...

Wonderful lighting and balance of layered elements.
I like the contrasting elements of the back background of unlit boats, golden lit houses, vertical lines of the trees and mountains.
I like how the seagull is positioned as though it's observing the scene with us, it all ties together well.

I like the gentle and peaceful mood created by silky smooth water in the setting (or rising) sun in the background, the fallen tree adds a sense of direction, further leading the eye in. Good work!

We had a really big shoot this weekend in a couple cool locations for a music video. Took some snaps so I'll share a couple over the next couple of days.

I think you've captured a great sense of power here: with the strong figure pose with the strength and contrast of near silhouette breaking against the rays lighting the smoke.

Still new around here but I thought I'd share another picture I took last week.

I like the contrast of layers going on here, the smooth flowing water, a neutral middle ground and sharp white roots against shadow.

This put a smile on my face :)

Loving your aurora shots AlaskaMoose!
This is one of my favourites.

Nice one otter!
The Lit palms against the cityscape make for a compelling shot.
I've been meaning to get to Sydney and shoot around the harbour at dusk for some time now, there's bucket loads of potential to exploit!

Hi All,
I havent posted here in a very long time.
Nice to see the standard hasn't dropped and all the old familiar names are still present as well as a lot of new ones... great work folks :)

Anyway just a flying visit so here's a wee silhouette I took the other night while I was doing a shoot for a client.

I love this picture and the ghosted person in the center taking a picture is ironically awesome. I imagine they walked in and grabbed a shot while you shutter held open.

Mine for the day.

The lights

Lovin't the lights too. They used to be a nightly occurrence while growing up in Labrador... now we rarely see them in this part of Northern Ontario. I can't see exif data even though I have a plug in. Could you actually describe a set up for us ?? Tell us what you did or didn't do, what was uncomfortable, how you set camera up for the cold etc? Thanks, Barry
