Nothing special, just playing with an old macro lens and learning my way around my new camera :)

I'd better save a bottle of this for Oct 21 2011 ...

Explain please? I didn't edit the pic at all.

ohh wow. OK, I thought the leaves were green and you did a selective desaturaion of the green leaves and only left the color of the flowers (like this: http://rookery9.aviary.com.s3.amazonaws.com/6394500/6394726_9089_sqr.jpg). My bad! Still, bumping up the contrast a bit might make them "pop" a little more and make the picture look a little less flat. Now knowing you did no processing is interesting. Just so you have an idea, I don't use ANY of my pictures without processing them to some extent. Try shooting in RAW and learn a little about processing. Seriously, it will make a world of difference in the final outcome!!!

Have fun learning, half of the fun is the post work. :D

That being said, if you didn't mention you didn't like the shot I wouldn't have been critical of it, I like it. :D

Didn't quite come out the way I hoped but I'm still learning here.

Man, I'm going to have to go with gameface here and admit that I thought it was selective coloring. When you mentioned no editing, I just figured you had used the selective coloring mode in your camera and then meant you did no editing after that. Once I clicked on it to make it larger, I was able to see the other colors in the picture (small purple flowers and then the small amount of background at the very top).

What kind of plants are these that are totally colorless? That certainly makes the subject much more intriguing. (not that it wasn't before :p )

Near the base of Stone Mountain, GA, on the left side is a statue to memorialize the Civil War soldier. In the background is the famous carving on the side of the mountain.

This is gorgeous. Great timing / sun placement how it highlights the sides of the contrasting edges of the carving! The framing is really good too. I know you wanted to frame and get the two carvings in frame while being as close as possible and you chose a really good angle to do it.

It looks like a variety of Senecio cineraria; maybe 'Cirrus' or 'White Diamond'? They're covered in white hairs to protect them from strong sunlight.

Thanks for the feedback :) Yeah, I'm aware of the selective desaturation bit but I'm still a n00b so I'm just trying to figure out how to work my camera :p I think the photo editing will come a little later for me. Currently just shooting JPEG's but, once I start using Photoshop, I'll start using RAW's as well. Bit overwhelming but really fun too.

I don't even think I know how to put my camera in selective coloring mode :p I took the pics in the Enid Haupt Garden in DC. I liked the contrast of flowers in the garden. Not sure what the flowers are called but yeah, they're white/dull gray in color which I thought was pretty weird looking.

Thanks, Jason! I'm posting a different angle from the other side in the Landmarks thread if you want to see it.
