This is the church next door to mine. Like my church, it is also a historical mansion in the Atlanta area.

St. John Chrysostom Melkite Catholic Church

In the summer of 1954, Rev. Fr. William Haddad came to Atlanta as the new priest. Shortly after in 1955, the parish fortunately purchased the Candler home from the American Legion for $62,000.00 and in 1957, it was placed under the patronage of our Holy Father among the Saints, John Chrysostom and was dedicated by Archbishop Francis Hyland, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Atlanta.

Grey & White Church

First HDR attempt: I took a bunch of photos at different exposures on a cold, bleak, snowy, gray day last February, with the intention of giving an attempt at HRD. My goal was to try to preserve the detail in the snow. Today I finally had the courage and time to give it a try. I used FDRTools, and 4 images, with ev +1, 0, -1 and -2. How'd I do???

This is great. Some people might have thought the humourous element was enough, but this is nicely composed and the colours are good.

It looks cold, so you must have done good ... also it doesn't look obviously HDR, which is also good.

I love a nice dog photo, and this captures a personality.

Here's another photo from last Saturday in Richmond Park.

I really like this photo. Great use of light and exposure. Wonderful look and feel.

Another very good photo. Nice use of perspective. The tones and shadows make for an interesting composition.

Nice capture, I'd advise getting a "Better Beamer" and using it to get a catchlight in the eye- that's the only thing that would make this shot better immediately. Be careful about where the sun is once you have one on though!

Some fill flash to light up the subject's face would help this shot- always try a shot with fill outdoors with people- just dial in a bit of negative compensation to tone it down. You'd be surprised at how often it helps an image.

I'd prefer to see it not so aggressively tonemapped. I don't think the cartoonish look helps- the image looks like it's shot well, so I think I'd prefer to see it not mapped or treated a lot more lightly.

The HDR treatment is well done- perhaps a little more detail in the snow on the roof would be good though.

You know what, there is something wrong with the lighting on this one. I kind of did a rush job on it last night after taking it, and I didn't really look that closely at it when I was done. I'm going to redo it and see if I can correct it. That's what I get for processing it during a meeting. I'll update here after I redo it.

Anyway, today's shot is me playing with a neighbor's puppy. She's not too keen on strangers (first time seeing me, and I started on the Wrong Side of the Fence). But, I had the ball. This presented a difficult decision.

I reprocessed and figured out what I did wrong and fixed it. This new version is much more accurate. I think it is a definite improvement.
