Well, it's 1 am GMT -5, so I guess it's time for POTD November.

I took this shot a few days ago with the mantis hanging upside down on a step. He was rather sluggish and sat through a lengthy photo shoot.

This was shot with my Canon S3 IS in macro mode. I believe it was shot in AV mode set at f/3.5 with a resultant exposure time of 1/50 sec.

Well... it's about that time.

One job I need to do tonight is fill in all the right little circles on this ballot... I've been putting it off for too long... then it's off to the mail, or drop box.

Yes, here in Oregon we've had vote by mail for several years now. When you register to vote, ballots are mailed to your home address. Once you fill out the ballot, you place it inside a secrecy envelope, then enclose that in the return envelope which is included. The back of the ballot return envelope must be signed by the voter so they can check you off the voter rolls as having voted. But, once they open that envelope, the sealed secrecy envelope is put with all the other sealed ballots so there is complete privacy of the actual ballot. In addition to being able to put it in the mail, there are numerous ballot drop boxes around the city/county where you can just drop it off, up until the deadline for voting. The ballots are usually mailed out 2-3 weeks before the election, and can be returned anytime up until the voting closes. It seems to work pretty well, but isn't quite as "fun" as going to the polls on election day and waiting in line to vote.

I know the 1 photo/day rule... but this is just for illustrative purposes...

Wow, love the bird pictures. How do you guys get it so close, are you guys using a 200mm-400mm lens?

Its so clear that is so beautiful. Love the detail on the feathers, this is one of those things that a PnS can never match.
