Winter Arrives!

Snow fell here in sunny Scarborough, then the sun came out for the afternoon!

Just a shot with my lowly 3.1mp point and shoot nikon...

Sorry to be the dissenting voice, but I'm not sure it works here to have the sun 'in shot'. Even though it's low in the sky, it's so bright that it's just blown out to white.

If the sun is half hidden by clouds, or tree branches, or the sky is hazy, or the sun is even closer to the horizon (ie sunrise/sunset), then there's not quite such a stretch between the brightest and darkest areas of a pic, and a DSLR sensor will record some detail in the sun and surrounding area (a grey grad filter can help too)...

Very true. thank you for such honest input! I love having things to improve upon. A lifelong challenge, if you will :p

Oh, and thanks for the kind words, Steamie!

ohhh, so cool!

20 sec exposure?

sorry, 1/2 second. I was probably thinking of a different shot

It's all there in the file. :)

As for C&C: I think this shot would have benefited from a more shallow DOF (the background is distracting) and better lighting (it's rather flat).

Thanks, I never knew about that.

And as for the C&C, thanks I'll take that into consideration next time.

digitalfrog and PkennethV, those are very nice shots. Certainly caught my attention! :p Here's my shot for the day.

digitalfrog, the more I look at the photo, the more I wonder how much Photoshoping you did. I want to just out of pure curiosity (because it's just so awesome), I would have nothing against it even if you said you completely Photoshoped in the flare or if it's a composite of 4 images...whatever you did...i just want to know:D

Yeah, that pic is just awesome dfrog!!! and LCK, thats a good photo, pretty spooky though :p

Thanks! If you had seen the creation process, it wouldn't seem nearly as spooky! ;) Watching a guy shuffle around into three positions with a flashlight isn't that terrifying. :p

Thanks Seenew

Those whales were awesome, but couldn't get a good shot of them, they blew out white. I have a few more good shots I will post later. Thanks :)

Here is mine for today:

For some reason the quality decreased quite a bit when I uploaded to flickr. I am taking it to the printer tomorrow to test what it would look like once printed.

Cheers

Really nice nidserz, I'm drawn a bit too much to the white patch midway up on the left though.

WOW. I really like this one!

Thanks for the comment, and as for the white patch I know it frustrated me too. It is the "Times Square" of Toronto that has this huge video screen playing random videos.

The only photoshop is the green effect (LightRoom in fact) :)
There is no montage, it was shot facing lasers in a huge rave...

So cool.

Any details appreciated.

Admins, sorry I don't remember how to shrink down the quoted image.

Today:

Hand held Raw at ISO 100.
Photoshop adjustments: whitebalance and unsharpen mask.
C&C always appreciated.

{I also did an HDR which I really like and it can be seen here.}
