During my internship at a tank bataillon I was told the German military police actually does give tickets to speeding tank drivers. I was 15 years old so it could have been a joke, but on the other hand it was still Germany… Btw on the signs these are weight limits. In the 90‘s, in West Germany, those were everywhere including at bridges in small local parks..!
It wasn't a tank, but I have seen a case where a "too heavy" piece of equipment drives across a bridge not capable of bearing it. It doesn't end well for either the bridge or equipment!

My Sunday walk in the neighborhood and I have to say people are pretty creative with their Halloween Decorations.

Halloween is big here in Denver too. We usually get between 150 to 200 kids come to our door, though greatly diminished during the pando. Sadly, we’ll be out of town this year but the neighborhood is starting to gear up. If I think about it on one of my morning walks, I’ll grab a few examples.

Seems to me that since Hallowe'en isn't even until the end of the month that putting up decorations around the first of the month is way too early and a wee bit....much?
Maybe. But it’s a big deal here, at least in the more urban neighborhoods. We have a large Mexican community so there’s Dia de los Muertos too, also a big deal in the urban neighborhoods. It’s personally my favorite yearly celebration by far, over and above our standard holiday fare. Sadly, I see Christmas (mostly) and (some) Thanksgiving stuff up and around already, and have since Labor Day, which I find a wee bit…much :).

You get to put on masks, put up “scary” decorations, make kids happy with candy, see neighbors and watch really bad movies like “Plan 9 from Outer Space”. No traveling to see relatives (or vice versa), no big (usually dull) meals to cook, no stress of presents. Just fun. Love it! It’s essentially one big friendly street party where I live.

Don't get me wrong, I love Hallowe'en and have happy memories of street-party celebrations when I was growing up, but back then people didn't rush to put up their decorations on October 1st or 2nd -- they waited until later in the month. On Hallowe'en itself we kids had fun going trick-or-treating, filling our bags with candy and other treats at the houses along our street and then everyone gathered at several neighbors' houses where they had fun activities such as dunking for apples and other cool things in their garages, and food and beverages were supplied for everyone, adults and kids alike.

I agree about the Christmas stuff -- the other day in a store I saw a bunch of Christmas displays already being put out on their shelves. At least this time they (that particular store, anyway) waited until after Labor Day and until the month of September was finished -- I think that there were a lot of protests when the stores were all filling their shelves with Christmas decorations and merchandise even before Labor Day. THAT was really just ridiculous. Commercialism to the max.
