A track needs a train, a road needs a car, a path needs a walker. Dunnerdale, last week, before the Lakeland weather went all Shakespearian on me...

Hawk on a wire

I was at work and my wife saw the hawk in our front yard, then he/she flew to the service wire along our property and she captured this image.

I just Google'd Great Falls Paterson - and to my amazement, it's in NJ. Jokes about that state aside, I wasn't aware it possessed features like that.

On Wikipedia I found this picture - I'm not a photo person - but part of me feels this could have been beautiful with less post-processing.

Also, for those that have been there in person - is that a house at the top of the falls???

p.s. Sorry for derailing - I will drop a picture from today in here, once I take one... ;)

Yeah ,it's a house ... actually a whole neighborhood ... the falls are in the middle of the city . They're the reason for Paterson's existance , being the source of power for the 19th century industry that developed there .Pretty much the whole city was water powered in the early 1800's . The raceways and a lot of the old mill buildings are still there . Slowly they're getting restored. There's some neat urban photography opportunities around the raceways. Anyway , one from near that house you see in the picture..

This was a reference shot I took on a day when I planned to do some shooting at this location in the evening. I had a long-exposure sunset shot in mind, but due to one of the craziest situations I've ever experienced, that evening shoot never happened. We were staying in one of these huts because the owner (who is an acquaintance) kindly let us use it for a long weekend. It was a little one-room hut with an outhouse and an outdoor shower. So we're not talking about a big place here. We had a couple of nice days using it as a base for hiking until this last day, when the owner decided to invite a bunch of friends over for a BBQ--while we were still there! Needless to say, that made things...err...crowded to say the least. We came back from a very long and strenuous hike, very much in need of changing clothes and showering, but the hut was full of strangers. So we packed up and left, scratching our heads at the owner who was assuring us that we were still welcome to stay the next two nights as planned. Bizarre!

Love the pic and the story, to bad you were not able to capture the long-exposure sunset shot .............now if you were in your early 20's possible you'd stay and party with a bunch of strangers...those "huts" look very peaceful for rest though

I love the color palette of this one.

Thanks, mtbdudex. Since the strangers were all in their 50's and 60s, I rather doubt a 20-something would have wanted to stick around either, but who knows...

Thanks Phrasikleia!

This is the last one I'll post of the Moriones Festival in the Philippines, although it's actually the first of another series that I posted on my blog. Early one morning during the Morinones Festival, a number of men gather at the local cemetery to perform flagellants as a way to pay penance. Although not overly graphic, the pictures do show a fair bit of blood, which may disturb viewers of a sensitive disposition. If you'd like, you can see the rest of the pictures and read a bit more about it at my blog by clicking on the photo.

Vermeer lives...

Wow! They set up this scene in a museum?! I must go there! Would love to hear more about it. Terrific photo.

Thanks for the comments.
It is a pure lucky shot, the scene was there and the light was inviting to make the shot.
The atmosphere also made me think of Vermeer but as said, this was not intentional.
I tried a few other shots but as often is the case in such situations, the first one is the best.
Den Gamle By is an open air museum in the suburbs of Århus with old houses from all over Denmark. As on several locations in Europe it's a collection of houses that were rebuilt after they had to make place for new buildings on their original location.

Also in Århus is the Aros museum. On the roof I was impressed by the rainbow panorama.

Caught her before I went to work Jul 26, 2011 6:45am, finally got around to processing it.

Handheld T1i, Canon EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM +1.4x, ISO 400, Exposure 1/80 sec, Aperture 5.6, Focal Length 280mm

Our front yard wildflower field, I walked so slowly down the driveway to get this shot - anybody here remember the 70's TV series "Kung fu", where he walks on the rice paper silently?
That was me sneaking up on her.

Well done. It's not easy to be stealthy around deer. I have a sneaking suspicion that she ultimately spotted you, however...just a hunch...;)

Nurse, could you... um... nevermind...

Looking at her left hand, gotta wonder is she related to Wolverine....
What time period in history is she supposed to represent?

Canidate for leading lines photos also....
Was this taken handheld or tripod on the bridge?
Somehow it seems just slightly soft, if focus then some portion still would be sharp, bridge vibration possibly?

I don't know where you live but it does look awfully nice. You do some truly amazing pictures.

I can't help thinking that'd look fantastic as a really big portrait picture.

I want that car! It'd be completely impractical in every respect but it's just so cool.

Great colours and a lovely depth of field.

The B17, my most favourite of aeroplanes. Looks like a 'G' to me. I just wish it was a bit bigger, but there are probably all sorts of restrictions around airspace and such that prevent things like that.

I feel almost embarrassed to put anything up given how fantastic everybody's pictures are this month.... anyway, here's my effort.
