Photography is about visualization, but I think landscapes can be some of the more challenging from a compositional standpoint because of this gap in how we perceive a scene in person versus how it is conveyed in a photograph.

This is so true, and for me it's through analysing hundreds if not thousands of landscape shots (my own and others) that this will become an intuitive process for me. Thank god for libraries! We don't have exquisite mountain ranges here, just soft rolling hills, beautiful beaches and a semi-interesting cityscape. So these are what I'll focus on working with.

Keith thanks so much for your gem of a post.

With all the technology, it's still "f/8 and be there"

Had to laugh at that. My lecturer said something along the same lines to me in the introductory course.

Grenoble, France. The view from the Bastille...well, some of the view!

iPhone 4s picture of a suburban retail plaza in Ohio. I like the combination of blue sky and the brick buildings.

Hi guys here's something new from the Tai O area of Hong Kong.
I'm surprised that I haven't seen any Space Shuttle Endeavor shots from today. I'm pretty sure they will turn up soon, you all have a talent for making the already amazing look even more stunning! :)

Waterflow in tunnel

A rill type waterflow in a walking tunnel under train tracks at Belair National Park.

Shot holding the camera a few inches above the water whilst focused quite a distance down the tunnel.

No filters were used to get this colour, it's how it was seen by the camera.

1/10 sec; f/8; 250mm; ISO 1600; handheld.
