One last walk.

What a great and unforgettable experience seeing an iceberg for the first time...St. Anthony, Newfoundland.

PHD_4805-L.jpg

I had the good fortune to see many a berg or "bergy bit" at home. When the bergs ground themselves on shore, it is a "event" for everyone. Headlands are jammed with locals and tourists marvelling at the sight. Peter's photo caused me to pull this pano from my collection. This is my later father, Frank. Whenever I was home, he'd love to take walks along the headlands with me. We would check on the berries, watch the whales, look for the capelin and yak. So, this photo is a favourite of mine. To the right, way up at the head of Spaniard's Bay, you can just make out a big iceberg that is now aground and is spending its last days melting away. To the left, the small building is the studio of a well respected Canadian artist, Chris Pratt. So Pratt is creating, the berg is melting and it turns out, Dad is out for one last walk. He was 91 when he went on the next great adventure. Funny how one photo can conjure up so much eh ?

Photo of B-17 cockpit with composite background

Shot this back in May. There was a HUGE thunderstorm and as such, the windows of the plane were completely fogged up. So I composited in a background to match the feel of the interior shot.

The Arco Naturale on the island of Capri. A bit of a hike to get there, but not something most of the day-trippers to Capri were interested in so we were mostly on our own.

Looks like it was worth the hike. Stunning!

This was probably my favourite from last weekend. I loved the way the couple seamed to be so into each other. I was tempted to ask if they would mind if I took a few more shots, but in the end just went for a shoot from behind and they will be none the wiser approach.

Comments always appreciated.

Probably my favorite of those you've posted that I've seen. Holy leading lines Batman :)

Thank you very much. I'm new to photography and still in the early stages of learning(I'm using iphone 5s...getting camera soon), so it's good to see you guys comment :) all critique and comments are welcome.

I was thinking of getting a Cannon EOS 60D for starters as it has a reasonable price for a newbie and I've heard great things about it, but Im open to any and all suggestions.

Best advice I can give is read lots of reviews, be sure which features you want and think more about the lens or lenses your going to use over the body. Here is a thread to get you started.

I also recommend the dpreview.com website for reviews etc.

Lastly get yourself to a camera store and have a play with your choices. Then you will know which layout you prefer.

Roman colliseum. Liked this one better in B&W. The sky was blown out for the exposure of the building and going to B&W emphasized shape, pattern, lines, and a little texture.

Another one from last weekend. I wish I went out last night. Sunset was lovely, but by the time I was available the moment had passed. Hopping for more of the same tonight. Hopefully the lens hood i bought this week will help with shots like this. I don't mind the glare in the top left, just not the yellow circle bothers me a bit. I could attempt to use the healing brush, but would probably look worse!

What a lovely place to sit and watch the clouds... or just chill with your girl ;)
