First try at playing with non-natural lighting, last night. Borrowed one of them umbrella light thingies (technical name is? i feel like such a neophyte) and experimented with what angle and distance to place it at to get decent exposures.

Been a few days since I took a decent photo. So today I was just holding the camera facing upwards in one hand and idly pressing the shutter whilst I played around on the computer.

When I looked at the photos, I thought this one wasn't so bad and decided to add it to the set!

As always, here is the rest of the set.

Testing a variable ND filter on the 24-105mm lens yesterday. 4 seconds.

Love the colours on this one :) . My long exposure stream/waterfall shots never come out looking like this, or with such smooth water. My variable ND filter was a bit on the cheap side though!

The Lobster Cove lighthouse, Newfoundland:

Wow, great view! You should do it again with a long exposure to get a streaky sky, I think that would look awesome :)

Rambling around in Denmark. Weather is crap, but scenery is beautiful. This shot taken from the island of Rømø towards the mainland. The vessel is the ferry from/to Rømø and the German island of Sylt. Many of these islands are connected with a dam/road to the mainland as the area falls dry at low tide.

Thanks for the feedback wabbit42. Doing it again, in the foreseeable future, just isn't in the cards even though I would love to try. When driving, it takes about three days to get there and three days to return home. :)

Regarding the long exposure idea, I do find it very interesting how we all see things differently and, without doubt, different is good. Otherwise, the world would be a very boring place indeed.

For me, the details and different colours of the unsettled sky are what made the shot work.

Cheers and thanks again wabbit42,

...Peter

Looking south from North shore of Lake Huron. Last fall. Salmon jumped as I pressed shutter. You can just make it out in lower left of frame.

Never mind the salmon. I'd actually just clone that out. Your timing with the incredible curtain of clouds is enough to make for a very compelling image. Tighten it up with some cropping on top and at the right, and you've got a winner.

I understand, and didn't realise it was so far from home. Thanks for posting :)
