If they could figure out how to put a matte layer on there i'd be really happy.

I don't care too much about losing the illuminated apple. It may be iconic, but it's advertising for other people. Personally I don't care if other people know what kind of computer I have from a distance.

I'm MUCH more concerned about the side of the monitor I look at - and I have to say, the all-black glass bezel makes my wallet hand twitchy. Oh, mama.

As for the size, it sounds about perfect. Because of the aforementioned black glass bezel, my 2009 MBP looks basically as good as a new MBP (resolution aside), but I get tired of lugging it around every now and then. Also, 95% of the time, there is nothing but a MagSafe connected to any of its ports...

Make a 12" rMBA with all-glass screen and illuminated keyboard, and my checkbook is ready in 2015. No questions asked.

I don't really care about the number of ports or the compromise in screen size. I just hope that these reports of core-m processors are wrong.

How can you ditch the light up Apple logo? That's almost iconic when you see a apple notebook, that sucks if true, not very innovative on ditching the light up Apple
It'll be back in two revisions or less. They'll realize it was a mistake, like the disappearing backlit keyboard. ;)

Anyway, this is likely legit, and looking like good good response to Dell's stunning new XPS 13. I got to play with one and it's just in a league of its own right now in the ultraportable space. This new 12" MBA will have to be something pretty special to compete (OS aside).

Specs wise the Dell will probs still kill the 12" MBA. No way Apple will release a screen as good, or compromise on the aesthetics with as many ports as the dell.

Release imminent???

If this is a real part (seems pretty legit) then the release can't be too far away. I'm not a big fan of stripping all the ports since I work in an enterprise environment and need easy access to ports, even if thats through TB adapter. But I do like the 12" size as a good middle ground between 11 and 13 for a redesigned Air.

So wait just a minute here...

A 12" screen is 2 inches bigger than a 10 inch screen and 1 inch smaller than a 13 inch screen?

AMAZING!

Paired with black bezels underneath, it is difficult to see where the display ends and the bezels begin unless the screen is turned on.

You can see the top bezels thanks to the flash but I don't have any measurements tools as I am on the go but I think it would be possible to estimate the width based on the expected 12 inch display.

This might be the MacBook Air I was waiting for to take on location to shoot tethered, only problem (if the rumours are correct) will be the USB port as I don't think finding the right cable will be easy at first.

I'm sure Apple could come up with a Broadwell box that's just a keyboard and an 12" iPad that slots in on top, sort of like a Microsoft Surface

I'm calling it now. The next gen MB Pros are gonna come in 14" and 16".

This looks amazing. I don't plan on purchasing it because I love my rMBP, but I know many people that would love one of these above the current gen MBA

I would imagine the ultimate goal is to ditch the current MBAs, but just like the with the MBPs, they'll continue to sell the older models for some time and gradually shift people over as pricing and required technology comes into line.

With the MBP getting thinner and lighter in the move to Retina, it makes sense to give the Air "more Air".

I agree, also once they consolidate the line up it is likely they will do away with naming them Retina and only use the term on the spec sheets.

I hope there would be at least two of those USB ports, because not being able to connect to external devices while charging would be annoying.

Hear me out guys.

Everyone here obviously notices the blacked out logo on the back. Hmmmm, it interestingly looks to be the same as the logo on the back of the iPads. Weird because it's orientation (horizontal) on the back would indicate it's some sort of Macbook?

Lots of rumors about a 12 inch "iPad Pro" and a 12 inch Macbook Air?...Why would Apple make two different, and in a way competing, products with the same screen dimensions.

My take is that Apple has been working on a competitor to Microsoft's Surface. Surfaces are great and in an area that Apple isn't really competing in. The 12" iPad Pro rumors and the 12" Macbook Air rumors are actually one in the same.

Some feedback would be nice because I haven't been able to get this connection between the two out of my head.

Not agreeing or disagreeing that the two rumour streams could be the same, but this is definitely a laptop screen - indicated by all the wiring along the bottom (taped up) and you can also see the under screen soft matte black area as per current macbooks where the hinge sits.

I would love a 12" iPad Pro/Plus though.

Hmmm, such a strange product.

11.6in MBA, 13.3in MBA, 13.xin rMBP, 15in rMBP

So throw in a 12in rMBA with less functionality (ports) than the MBA? Are they just going to nix the current MBAs? I'm so confused. Who's the target demographic?

Makes sense when you think about it. The pros are pretty thin and light already and when you add a retina to the Air, there's little reason for many people to spend the extra dollars to buy the pros. They need to keep the lines differentiated and I think the path that Apple has taken (according to rumors) makes sense. I see the 11" and 13" being sold for a while longer to maintain the lower price points but wouldn't be surprised to see them go away at some point.

Was just coming here to post something very similar...
I totally agree with you.

If you look at the bottom of the part in the first picture you can see the swivel pieces with the cutouts for screws. I don't think a piece made for an ipad would have this.

So really, a bigger iPad Air 2 with a backlit keyboard attached to it that runs OS X Yosemite. Nice.
