I get through an entire day on an overnight charge with my iPhone X. What are people doing with their iPhones to justify this inconvenience? When you go out, you meet friends, you take a group selfie first, sit down, eat, talk about careers, life, gossip; during all this you might check your phone one or two times. Maybe walk around town then just before you leave, you all take another group selfie. If you are taking public transportation or walking home, you might look at email, death scroll a bit on IG or Facebook. But it should not warrant needing this.

If you go on vacation, things like this become helpful. You are taking a lot of photos, looking at the screen a lot, using maps a lot. It's nice to be able to easily bump up the phone's charge while in the car or whatever.

Just received mine in Sydney Australia.

Some quick observations:
  • Battery was 0% on arrival
  • The material does not feel the same as a white silicone case. It doesn’t have the same soft touch and is a harder type plastic
  • Very compact and snaps on satisfyingly to both a leather case and the bare back of the iPhone
  • The magnet attachment feels much stronger than the leather wallet
  • Same length and widthas the leather wallet but obviously much thicker
  • Weighs 115g, 11mm thick
  • Charged phone from 83% to 91% in about 30 mins, battery went down to around 80%. So 20% battery = around 8-10% of iPhone 12 Pro max battery. Probably gets up 50% of full battery for a full discharge of the battery pack. Seem to have stopped after reaching more than 90% as indicated in the notification pop up when you first attach it.

Can you piggyback one of these onto an iPhone 12 Pro Max that's already in an Apple Clear Case? I figure since an Apple MagSafe Charger hockey puck works with that combo, this would ... but you never know unless you ask :)

This battery pack is simply a Magsafe charger with built-in battery, and detachable Lightning port. Anything works with the $39 Magsafe puck will also work with this. Plug it into a USB-C brick and it will charge both the phone and its own battery with 15watts, take it on the go it will go down into a mere 5watts.

Note that the battery pack will NOT charge wirelessly. I think that pretty much sums it up.

In other words: "I live my life this way, it's the only right way and everyone should do the same or they're idiots".

When I meet friends we don't take group selfies. I do not check my phone obsessively while I'm in a company. I set the phone on silent the second I arrive and it will stay that way until I leave. My friends are my priority.

However, as I haven't made a few million yet I do have to work five days a week, I can't just spend all of my time taking group selfies with my friends. Instead, I use it for navigation while going from one place to another while listening to music from Spotify. The phone keeps tabs on my work tickets as well as my important emails, notifying me of them as soon as they arrive. I obviously also reply to them which in some cases takes quite a while. My phone also provides GPS data for my DSLR so whatever I capture is properly positioned, allowing me to process and assign them to the proper projects easier when I arrive back to the office. If I'm on a break and I've nobody to talk to I may take a while to watch something from Netflix/Viaplay/Cmore/etc. Sometimes I post something quickly to Insta/FB when I can't be bothered to pull out the DSLR. I use it for drone control when necessary, although not that often. I've got two apps monitoring my position constantly, one of them for drive log, another for time spent on client sites. While staying at client sites I obviously need to park, so there's yet one more application running on the background, reminding me to stop parking when I get back to the vehicle. Every now and then I need to use Teamviewer to connect to client computers to see something they have an issue with although I rarely bother to actually do anything on the tiny phone screen, but just seeing it helps immensely. I've got two different apps to control the hardware on client sites I use on a daily basis. I've got security cameras in different places alerting me when required. Plus quite a few other apps for private use I don't even bother to list. Oh, and half a dozen apps for charging my car at different providers.

End result: My screen time averages 4h/day, sometimes peaking over 6h. All of this because the 11 Pro Max is capable of so much that I rarely pull out my laptop for any smaller work. I charge the phone to full every night, it sits on the wireless charger in the car while driving, and still I'm down to 10-25% battery when I come home. As I also use it to control some of the entertainment systems at home I usually do need to give it a quick charge on the cable for it to last until I'm ready to sleep.

Do I expect everyone else to do the same as I do? Hell no. You're free to hang out with your friends all day, taking group selfies for all I care. Just don't expect it to mean any of the iPhones has a big enough battery for any situation where you actually use it for work. I wouldn't mind the Pro Max model to actually have a decent battery, they can have a Selfie model for those who just need to take a pic or two a day. It doesn't even really matter how fast it charges if it can't do that while moving, using a wireless charger. Very often I don't have a long enough break or a possibility to charge for several hours, so sometimes a battery pack or something would be the only way to go. The one shown in this article is butt ugly and I don't understand why they made it so small - use the whole damned backplate area to give it as much capacity as possible OR spread it out to make it a bit thinner and easier to use. Think of the 90's Nokia phones with rrrreally curved batteries. They were nice to hold. This one just doesn't make sense. And as I've heard bad things of iPhone 12 series battery life I won't be downgrading to those any time soon.

Would you use it as your everyday MagSafe Charger?

I didn’t read most of what you said because I have a life. But no where in my comments did I call anyone an idiot or make a claim everyone should do what I do. I simply provided an opinion of how I am able to get by with what I have. It’s your money if it meets your needs fine. I just thought, if you using a battery pack that much, maybe it’s your usage pattern. No different from Jobs saying you are holding the phone wrong.

Just did my drain charge test with a dead iPhone 12 mini and a fully charged MagSafe Battery Pack. Only waking up the screen every 15 minutes to check battery %.

Cellular on and WIFI and Bluetooth on. DND on (so no notifications). I won't ever charge with all those things off so I thought that's a bit more realistic. However there was no interaction with the phone the whole time (nor did it get notifications) other than waking it up to check the battery %.On an iPhone 12 mini it appears to give you another 79% of charge, obviously lower on other models:

15m: 12%
30m: 24%
45m: 33%
1h: 41%
1h15m: 49%
1h30m: 57%
1h45m: 64%
2h: 71%
2h15m: 77%
2h20m: 79%

Then the MagSafe Battery Pack depletes.

Apple's new MagSafe Battery Pack will begin arriving to customers around the world this week, and one lucky person has already snagged one.

magsafe-battery-pack-2.jpeg

Steven Russell from Memphis, Tennessee said he managed to pick up the MagSafe Battery Pack from a local Apple Store over the weekend, and he has since shared photos on Reddit, providing a closer look at its design and thickness.

Russell shared some early impressions of the battery pack, noting that it is designed with hard but smooth plastic and has a very strong magnetic attraction to his iPhone 12 Pro, even with Apple's silicone MagSafe case on the device. He added that while the battery pack is quite thick, its rounded edges make it comfortable to hold.

Priced at $99 in the United States, the MagSafe Battery Pack attaches magnetically to the back of the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max, providing additional hours of battery life. Apple says the battery pack is able to wirelessly charge the iPhone at up to 5W on the go, or at up to 15W when the battery pack is connected to a 20W or higher power adapter with a Lightning to USB-C cable.

When you attach the MagSafe Battery Pack to an iPhone 12 running iOS 14.7 or later, it will automatically begin to charge the iPhone and a charging status will appear on the Lock screen. iOS 14.7 is currently in beta and should be released within the next few days.

The MagSafe Battery Pack can be ordered on Apple's online store in a white color only and currently has a late July delivery estimate.

Update: Russell has also confirmed that the MagSafe Battery Pack can wirelessly charge AirPods, which is to be expected, as the battery pack is functionally equivalent to the MagSafe Charger in this regard.

What I want to know is: why is the  logo not centered in the middle of the battery pack like it is on the MagSafe wallet? IMHO it looks much better like that. Anyone agree?

Apple just charged my card and it’s “prep to ship.” I’m excited to see how this compares with the Anker Magnetic pack!
I like it so far! It’s smaller in size than Anker but that makes it easier to hold. Wish it came in another color than white tho. So far I will use this over Anker. Having lighting port and reverse charging is good since iPhone is still lighting, only device that isn’t USB-C -_-
