I have a big iPad with no need for a mini iPad.....so Apple shouldn't make the mini since I don't want them to. Because if they did that, it wouldn't make sense for me to buy one since I have a big one, so I wont buy it and because of that, I don't want anyone else to have one either.

I see what you did there. ;)

Anyways, there is definitely a target market. Those not wanting to buy an iPod or iPhone but don't want to pay $500 for a "full" tablet and are looking at the competitors. I don't see why that's so hard to understand. Granted Apple likes it's high margins and all, but that doesn't mean that they will only release a product if it doesn't. Their motivation may be more to squeeze out competitors such as Google rather than just focus solely on the "mini's" margins. Makes perfect sense to me.

Is this the same iPad Mini that is never going to happen according to some people on here? Can't wait to see the finished product in 2 weeks time so we can all gloat at their stupidity. You know who you are. :D

then it will cost about $399 - easily that retina display alone about $100 range.

Also another issue is the battery life - the battery in the iPad mini will be much smaller than the regular iPad - if you go retina display - they battery life will go down to 6 hours range - unless the A6 power savings are that good...

Uhh? Smaller screen = less power, need less battery. Bigger screen = more power, need more battery. It is a trade off... I'm not sure which would be better, smaller screen to smaller battery or bigger screen to bigger battery, but that would have to be known for you to quantify differences between them.

Yeah, I mean didn't people get the hint that there would be another keynote.. I mean they didn't announce a date for the iPods or iTunes 11, just 'sometime in October' and 'late October'. It makes sense there will be a keynote in a couple weeks showing off the iPad mini and giving its release date along with preorders, the iPods release dates, and iTunes 11 release date. They may also include redesigned iMac or something, just because the keynote would be pretty short with only the aforementioned announcements.

I'm having a hard time understanding the why the cutouts are there. If you look at the second pic (of the rear shell), there appears to be no cutouts?

Cutout at top on the second pic. In the same place as the first pic (the area circled with the number 2). Looks like all the other iPad 3G/4G cutouts.

I can't for the life of me see a second photo of the back--only the interior shell, no photo of the outer side with logo. Can somebody please direct me to that image?

see this news i think iPad mini just @ 1024x768

regarding the small panel less power - I think it is not the size it the resolution also right? (to measure how much power it draws)

Regarding battery, you also should not forget that the iPad Mini has a smaller screen as well. I’m quite confident that Apple will find the right balance to preserve a good battery life.

100% this.

I'm betting there are still some people with their heads buried in the sand.

I hope it's real simple because I want apple to incorporate this color direction into their Mac line as well. I would love a black MacBook or iMac.

I think it will be a $350 device, with retina display.
No way it will be retina. That would mean the same iPad3 resolution on a smaller screen for even higher DPI. If its maintaining the iPad1/2 resolution on smaller screen it will have higher DPI already and look sharper. Super high resolution would drive up cost, need bigger battery etc. Make it harder to differentiate from iPad3.

my 1st gen iPad needs to be replaced anyways... just tell me where to throw my credit card.

I'll live in the real world where an iPad mini makes no sense and is based on very weak non existent rumours. You live in your world where when one dodgy source states a keynote event will happen in the middle of October means a garuntee iPad mini. Oh and let's not dare confuse the rumoured keynote with Apples confirmed earnings event this month
I bet you still believe it'll cost $200 as well?

I do believe two weeks before the last keynote we knew pretty much everything about the iPhone 5. And about new codes for new iPods which people claimed were codes for an iPad mini.

After all the iPhone 5 leaks, I'm thinking this is the real deal. Oddly though, I don't like what I see. Too squarish, and the side bezels look out of place.

I think it will be a $350 device, with retina display. Probably coming with a 4g option at a higher price. And 1 year old internals (A5). I also think this will be taking the place of what the iPad 2's purpose is now with the new iPad, and that is a cheaper alternative to the latest model. I can't wait to get one to use as an e-reader in my bedroom and my new iPad as a true computer replacement device at home. Still gotta have that PC for work!

I don't think that is going to happen, mainly because the A5 won't be able to handle 2048x1536 resolution smoothly.

They could stick an A6 in there with its 3 graphics cores, but then it would be "better" than the current A5X iPad.

My guess is A5, 1024x768, $349 starting price.

you must be pulling our legs. how many times do sites like this one have to show us detailed hardware leaks weeks before launch that turn out to be entirely accurate?

Perhaps you should read the story on 9to5mac who first posted the article and state:

http://9to5mac.com/2012/10/02/purpo...-full-digitizer-frame-and-housing-assemblies/

------------------------------------

Ukrainianiphone.com reports to have obtained parts for the upcoming iPad mini. The parts, labeled in the gallery above, according to the Russian-language website, were from a source who visited the factory in Asia. Notables include the plastic spacer bars, which Apple has traditionally used for 3G and 4G radio equipment, and an Audio jack at the bottom like the new iPhones, iPods, and the nano SIM tray that “broke off during disassembly.”

The LCD displays appear to be of the same ilk as the recent Kindle Fire displays rather than the iPad Mini’s 4:3 display. So, take this with a few with pinches of salt.

----------------------------

So we have one baseless rumour stating they are being made in Brazil and then this story of apparent parts including ones that look like they are from the Kindle Fire that have come from an Asian factory.
And you wonder why we're sceptical?
