I second this. The use of subfolders in Albums makes it a lot easier to organize my 10,000+ pictures. And I love the idea to create a smart album to make sure I'm not forgetting to file any pictures.

It´s almost so vital Apple should put it in by default. I really wish we had a way to show photos without keywords too.

Bring back the button to "Delete already imported photos" off of the phone.

I see this in Photos once in a while when importing... Not sure what is going on.
I also see Smart-Albums on all my Macs now, sync´d over, except IOS devices.

- Bring back some sane & rational way of organising photos (like Events).
The system they have deployed is too linear and next to useless with a large library on a computer. (Sadly though I reckon this won't happen as Apple want it to all be like iOS & cloud. Desktops are just slaves to iOS now...)

- Improve sorting so you can invert date. Scrolling to the bottom of my huge library everytime I wanted to get to the present quickly became tedious.

- Must be able to show file names under the image. What genius decided people don't need such logical things? Oh... I know... someone whose photo library is comprised of selfies taken on their iPhone...

I really am becoming very sick of Apple taking good desktop apps and dumbing them down to met the level of the iOS
Even Microsoft has gone out of their way to make the Office suite for iOS as fully-featured as possible. They didn't take the lazy Apple option & dumb down the desktop versions instead.
Apple really needs to recognise that there are people out here who still rely on their desktop computers for business.
I just spent 4k on a retina iMac & installed Photos only to have my new iMac made to look and act like a giant iPad.
Really Apple, I mean REALLY???
Needless to say I've dumped Photos & won't be revisiting it anytime soon.

filename should be title instead of No title that´s for sure. Thats how it was under iPhoto, not sure why it´s not working anymore.

One thing that is vital to Photos if you want to continue using Events like iPhoto is to create a smart-album to show photos not in Albums. That way you can be sure to always organise your photos into Albums like with Events before.

... And I love the idea to create a smart album to make sure I'm not forgetting to file any pictures.

Is the above simply for optimal organization, or does Photos not automatically save/import Photo Stream pictures, like it did (or could be instructed to do) in iPhoto? Thanks.

1. Actually hide photos that are hidden
2. Let me explode the iPhoto Events folder so all the Events become albums in Photos. This can be done manually but I have a lot of Events
3. A way to edit the side bar, just as you can in the Finder side bar

Have I really got this far in the thread and no one has said yet:

"MAKE UPLOADS FASTER AND HAVE BETTER INFO WITH WHAT IS ACTUALLY GOING ON!!!!"?

Agree with pretty much all the points in here. I've done a fair bit of travelling and loved the world map view, plus it's kind of like a todo list of where to head next if there isn't a photo there already ;)

Anyone else get the feeling they've just done an iWork, stripped back a lot of photos from iPhoto/Aperture to get it out there and to work with iOS, and then they'll add more features over time?

  • Bring back Events, or a way to edit and organize Moments.
  • Fix sorting options! Sort by date and ascending/descending
  • If Albums have taken the place of events, have an easy way to create them, and bring back the function of being able to quickly see photo thumbnails when dragging the mouse over the album thumbnail.
  • Ability to set how much space on a Mac the optimized storage takes up (and on the iPhone, too)

I am quite fed up with the lack of features in Photos and how years worth of Events that many of us have spent copious amounts of time on as a way of organizing our photos has gone out the window in favour the mess that is Moments.

I urge you to write, as often as you can/want:

This goes for anyone. I've found in the past that either Apple listens or they've been working on suggestions sent to their feedback.

I'll be sending feedback often!

Probably better if everyone takes what they have posted here and submits it as feedback to Apple...

https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html

Their feedback forms only take so much text.

Plus, I believe the more people sending in feedback will have a deeper impact.

I certainly miss Geotagging also some more options for editing. But I think they will open an API at WWDC for third party developers for adding extensions.

How about less like Photo's and more like iPhoto?

In all seriousness I think Photo's is quite flawed when you try to upload to Apple's servers and sync across multiple devices. I have a library of 19000 items and I have been syncing for 10 days on a 2/up internet connection.

The upload has stalled at 3000 items for the last couple of days. When I tell it to stop and then resume a couple of hours later I find that for some reason the option to send the pictures to iCloud is unchecked. No one touched the computer, but it stopped syncing.

Photo's turned all the iPhoto albums into smart albums which cannot be sorted by date. Why is that? We sorted everything by date in iPhoto. Now everything is sorted by Name. This is frustrating because iPhoto would create Albums for your photo stream each month and if I did not go in and change the title it was left as August 2014 Photostream. Now all my August' are next to each other because I cannot sort by date, only by name. This is silly.

And finally, the photos sent to our synced devices (2 iphones and 2 ipad) are missing about 10,000 items. No idea why. I turned off iCloud syncing on the iPad and my phone but all that did was completely screw up my photo library and photostream.

iCloud stopped sending photos from 1 iphone to the desktop Photo's app for apparently no reason also. All setting were correct.

This has been botched and not a smooth process. I'm gonna go back to reconstructing my library from all the devices and turning off iCloud.

Hey Apple, I tried to give you $3.99/month for 200Gb of data and it's just not working.

/end frustrating rant

Set it to sync this morning and come home to this;

So I guess it failed or something?

Then I tell it to go again, and we're back to the original 3,000 that are failing to upload.

And two hours later we're back to 11,000? Seriously. What is going on here? If this hadn't already screwed up my pictures on my phone I'd tell it to stop but I have no real choice here. I'll reach out to Apple and see what they say.

And this has been going on since Monday the 13th.

I have the same problem! My first sync from Photos to iCloud photo library uploaded 8000/11000 pics, then it had stopped and iCloud photo library was automatically deactivated in Photos>Preferences (No one had been using the computer).

I resumed sync by activating iCloud photo library again, and it then had to go through and confirm that the overlapping 8000 pics were the same (approx. 1.5 days of com.apple.photos.imageConversionService 125% CPU usage in activity monitor). But it never uploaded the rest of the photos, and again, iCloud photo library was suddenly deactivated in the Settings tab.

On my third run now with another copy of mye Photos library (should be identical).. but I dont have too much hope.

Tried contacting Apple support, but they were unable to help. Let med know if you figure it out..

I read on ReCode's review of iCloud Photo Lib that they had issues and Apple was able to correct it for them. the issue was sending duplicate pictures over and over again to Apple.

Maybe after I reorganize my albums I'll reach out to Apple.

Might be worth it to fall back to iPhoto until they get this v1.0 product some bug fixes and updates (like 6-months to a years worth) - people's photo's are often their most cherished things and v1.0 software is often not.

No new features :(

could any one check if the referenced library issue in photos app is fixed in 10.10.4??

here is the issue: uncheck "copy items to the photos library" in preference.
Import images but the photos library file size increases to the same size as images imported. app is ignoring the preference

It doesn't seem that I uploading duplicates (doesn't really upload) anything after the first 8000 pics) but it may be generating duplicates in the cloud maybe.

Btw. iCloud photo library switched itself of again today. No additional photos were uploaded.. Photos spent 1.5-2 days 125% CPU usage to what i presume is check my local library against the uploaded library.

Do you see something like the following in your logs?
