Any further updates on this issue? I have 2.2.1 as well (jailbroken) and I'm having the same problem with my photos being extremely blurry when I save them from emails or Safari.

I am running 3.0 beta and doing a side by side comparison of pictures I took before and taking the same picture now is a noticeably different. On "My" iPhone they look sharper and more colorful in the side to side comparison.

There is a bug in the camera roll but should be fixed in an update or two.

So are you saying that the blurry photo bug is still present in 3.0? I don't understand how some people experience this bug and some don't though. For me it makes the photos unusable.

No...I said the blurry bug seems fixed and the pictures look tons better in a side by side comparison.

The bug I mentioned has to do with not being able to pan the picture after you expand it. This is noted in 2-3 other threads to include my 100 features thread.

What's weird is that this bug doesn't seem to happen with every picture - I think it depends on the resolution of the picture. I just emailed myself a picture and it looked fine when I saved it to my camera roll; however, I tried saving a high-res picture from Safari and it came out blurry. I'm not sure if it's only specific resolutions that cause a problem or resolutions over or under a certain level but it's a bug that needs to get fixed.

I also tried saving a tiff file to my camera roll and it came out extremely blurry so this is certainly not limited to jpeg files either.

Just a quick update. I just got off the phone with Apple tech support and this is a known issue that they are working on (many people have reported the problem).

It seems to me that sometimes the image that is saved to the camera roll is a thumbnail of the original image rather than the actual image itself. For example, I viewed a picture in Safari that was 1728x1152 - it was clear and crisp in Safari. I saved that image to my camera roll and it looked horrible. I then emailed the image in camera roll to myself and the file size was 14KB (the original file size was 2.80MB). Apple's workaround is to save the file to iphoto and then sync your phone so that the picture sync to your camera roll. That's not an acceptable workaround when people are emailing you pictures so Apple needs to fix this for sure.

This blows. I'm jb and just went from 2.1 to 2.2.1 and now this blurry camera roll stuff. I sent myself an email containing 3 pics. 2 of them saved just fine, but one of them is blurry. Now I have to wait till 3.0 (whenever that may be) to get this resolved? I had no blurry pics with 2.1. Ugh.

All photos saved to the iPhone are optimized for the iPhone's screen. This means that a huge photo with a high resolution will be dulled down to something in the 450x650 range. It happens to my pictures all the time. It's a flaw, but not a huge one.

You don't understand the problem. Try saving a HUGE photo... it won't just fit the screen... it will be thumbnail size, then up-scaled to fit the screen. Try it out for yourself.

http://web.me.com/thespaz/red_flower.jpg Save this photo from Safari.... then look at it in your camera roll... it's definitely a bug introduced by 2.2 and later.

Wrong! The Spaz got it correct. Photos saved are not optimized for the screen.
