Earlier this week Italian site Macitynet shared images of a high-quality physical mockup of the iPhone 6, based on earlier design drawings and renderings. The site has now shared [Google Translation] a new series photos comparing that mockup to a Samsung Galaxy S5 display model, showing how Apple's larger iPhone might stack up to Samsung's flagship offering.

Samsung's Galaxy S5, released in April, has a display size of 5.1 inches, along with a thickness of 8.1mm. That makes it both larger and thicker than the iPhone 6 mockup, which appears to have a display size of 4.7-inches. While the thickness of the mockup cannot be determined, rumors have suggested the iPhone 6 will be thinner than the existing 7.6mm iPhone 5s, possibly between 6.5 and 7mm.

The mockup in the photos was reportedly created by a case manufacturer and is said to be a "final" version used to make sure cases and accessories will fit Apple's iPhone 6, which means that it could be a solid representation of what we can expect from Apple's larger phone.

Several design elements that have been seen in other case models and mockups are present in this high-quality mockup, including rounded edges, rectangular volume buttons, a rounded rear flash, a protruding camera, and a power button located on the right hand side of the device for easier one-handed use. ConceptsiPhone (via BGR) has compiled many of Macitynet's photos into a video, showing the mockup next to an iPhone 5s and an iPhone 4s.

Apple's 4.7-inch iPhone is expected to launch in the fall months, possibly as early as September. Along with a thinner frame and a larger display, it is also expected to include an A8 processor and camera improvements. A second 5.5-inch iPhone is also rumored to be arriving several months later due to production delays.

I hope the real iPhone 6 doesn't look like that because it looks cheap.

While it looks massively better than the Samsung, I just don't like it

Wait till Apple rolls it out.

Before these rumors got some credibility (and the reveal that Apple was acknowledging customers wanted bigger phone screens in the case), the crowd here slung words like "abomination" and similar for anything over 3.5" and then anything over 4": "one-handed use", "oversized pant pockets", etc. In short, Apple's chosen size was the one and only perfect size until Apple changed it's size and then THAT was the one an only perfect size.

As rumors grew and especially after the case reveal which then supported the idea, the crowd here started hedging: "wait & see", "might still be able to use it one-handed" and my favorite: "it's kind of growing on me".

Then, Apple will roll it out: "shut up and take my money", "best iPhone ever", "how did we ever get by with those puny screens", "I'm already in line".

Then about 2 years later, "Apple invented the big-screened smart phone" and evidence of others doing it first will be shouted down and those providing such evidence will be called trolls and similar.

While no one can speak for you, I'd bet handsomely that the bulk of those who put it down now will flip to "I'm already in line" as soon as Apple rolls it out. I suspect the bulk of those still putting down the bigger screen phone are still in that hedging state of not quite believing it's actually coming yet. So they'll put it down some but without the passion of "abomination" and similar.

Personally? I think it's long past due (and even Apple thinks that too per those court papers). They should have at least offered the option of some bigger screens a couple of years ago rather than leave the bigger sizes to Android. It's cost them some sales. They know it and are adapting to mitigate that advantage. I think bigger-screened iPhones will be GREAT! No special pants required. The spin of one-handed use might just be dropped from the spin list (like "who want's video on an iPod?" didn't persist when Apple launched a video iPod).

I'd like to see this with the 5.5" iPhone. This 4.7" is barely any bigger. Still smaller than the S5.

Wouldn't it be funny if the iPhone Phablet can't flim video in 4K like the Galaxy Note 3.

too much money went into R&D of that fingerprint sensor and unless they already come up with a way to have it built into the screen i dont see it going away anytime soon unfortunately.

so much wasted space! its almost bigger with a smaller screen ...

I think that Apple will eventually lose the symetery on the iPhone's face. The iMac has it's "chin", so maybe the iPhone could too.

I will admit that I miss my iphone. I like the note 3 but it's no iphone. I think I know the solution to my problem. Get an iPad with cellular service.

all these mockup comparisons do is show how bulky iphone 6 looks compared to 5.5" screen phones..

I think the button will have to go. Sure they just turned it into a thumbprint scanner but that will probably have to change into something else. Maybe slide your thumb down a thin line at the bottom corner and the sensor scans the print into a full image to approve access. Or maybe they go retina scan or something?

I think Apple is marching toward a phone that is just about all screen on the front edge-to-edge. All the stuff that blocks that or takes up much real estate that is not screen will have to go/evolve.

Could the home button become a thin horizontal button and the scanner shift to the bottom, side or maybe even the back? Conceptually, yuck! But I think it will have to go somewhere (else).

Looks like Apple needs to change the shape/size of the home button. Its taking up too much bezel realestate

I've been saying this for several months now. I even brought up the idea of a capacitive button, similar to the Lumia Windows home button but the Apple loyalists shot me down in flames.

Seeing it compared beside the Galaxy S5, I'm really hoping we get as much screen real estate as possible

The S5 is only taller because it has the word Samsung on it. Vain company they are, need to be reassured of themselves.

they still wouldnt shrink it on top because it has to look even with the bottom. apply philosophy

As long as you're happy with a thicker phone, then they could shrink the top. All that electronics has to go somewhere, and Apple have decided to shove it into the extra height, not the extra thickness. It serves a purpose beyond symmetry.

Well, one thing I've seen in the last 7 years is that Apple always releases a very well designed and built iPhone. Each released phone was better than the previous one.....

I have no reason to think it will be different this year. In other words my money is on Apple.

Got an S5 on its release day, upgrade from the iPhone 5. It's great phone with fantastic battery life. My only gripes are with the front facing camera. And the fact that I didn't switch to Android earlier. Might come back with the iPhone 6s, but absolutely no regrets for now. iOS is stale and the screens are too small.

I really don't like this curve on the back. It makes more sense to make the back shell curves be like the iPads or iPod touches because it adds more uniformity to the lineup. I know I would buy that in an instant, because I have an iPod touch 5th gen and my sister has an iPad mini which I have used a bit. Both of these are the best designs that apple has ever made, at least to me.

I really want that iPhone 6. I can't wait. The S5 just looks kinda thick. I don't need 3 days of battery on my phone.

Who needs a bigger iPhone than the 5s I know I don't. My iPad does what I need on a bigger screen.

The iPhone will never be big enough for some just keep the iPhone 6 the same size but improve it's Camera, Siri and battery life.

Lmao.A mockup of an iPhone not made by Apple, probably using inferior materials than what Apple will use, looks better than that piece of crap S5:eek:

I'll just wait for the 5.5 incher.. just got me a 5S off of craigslist to hold me down til that one drops

Seems to me quickcalibre just plain doesn't like the design first. That's actually another story as many hated the iPhone 4 and then the iPhone 5 design when they were leaked but they were mostly met with positive reception in person. The choice of material and fit & finish account for a large part of that.

On the other hand I must say the "one-handed use" is absolutely a thing for me. I have a powerful and massively large screen Android phone that's bigger than virtually anything on the market but I almost always choose to use a small 3.8" Windows phone because it's so much nicer to use and I have an iPad for other things. The iPhone 5's 4" display was a significantly downgrade for one-handed use for sure.

And speaking of usability of large screens, it must be said many Android users were against phablets too. When the Dell Streak showed up with its 5" display, a lot of HTC and Samsung users were saying it was far too big. Everyone has "all other phone sizes are wrong but mine is perfect" syndrome to an extent. Also importantly, the usage pattern changes over the years along with the user preference and the ecosystem.

I really hope Apple could make a phone in the current iPod Touch form factor or even better (for me), with a 3.5" screen but that won't happen. :(

As a side note, a Galaxy Note or a bigger phone actually may require special pants in my experience. You can walk around with them but when you sit down and the pockets get pressured, often times they really do require you to be more careful about the choice of pants and tight jeans forced me to put a phone in my bag a few times.
