I'm sure carriers make more from selling iOS devices, probably 8 times as much.
huh!? I don't see how that could be possible - care to share any evidence?

I really want to wait for the 6, but the 4S is driving me too crazy. I'll probably end up getting a 5S this week.

While the screens are getting bigger the form factor is surprising thinner and lighter in weight than the iPhone 4S. I'm sure when the iPhone 6 comes out you'll be one of those fanboys who all of a sudden start screaming large screen phones are AMAZING! I'm on iOS because I can't stand Android and for some reason I still have a LOT of DRM music in my iTunes library that won't transfer, but let's face iPhone Hardware has sucked ever since the 4 series and it's broken antenna... I do assume they'll keep the 5C and 5s and abandon the 4/4s when the 6 comes out.
Why don't you see how it could be possible? Apple makes the most profits in the mobile industry, they pay out the most to developers why is it so far fetch to think that carries do better with iOS devices. There are countless threads there are countless articles about how androids margins are razor thin and if you not part of the big three(Apple Samsung ect.) then most likely they are selling at a loss just to be in the game.
So why wouldn't they do similar things with iPhones - which one-for-one sell more than any other handset in the world?
Just curious. Seems like carriers push Android phones more than iPhones. My guess is because of the control the carriers have over Android versus iOS. That and I think they get bigger cuts for selling Android.
I never said they had margin problems. I mention razor thin marginsRight - APPLE makes the money....not carriers. And Samsung doesn't have a margin problem. Neither do other high end makers. They simply can't sell enough to compete.
8 times seems ludicrous.

when you're selling buy one get one free your obviously not making any money! just got to do the mathThere's nothing razor thin about Samsung's margins on its high end devices. Same with other high-end makers - though those other competitors can't sell enough to compete....
That my friends, is not an iPhone 4S. The iPhone 4S's speakers do not have that design, and the headphone jack is on the top of the iPhone 4S, not on the bottom.

For the umpteenth time, Samsung is not selling "two for one" or any such thing. The carriers and retailers are doing that.
No duh but the wholesale price has to be low enough to do this!
Why would it need to be that? The carriers lose $400 or so on every iPhone they sell, yet selling them is hugely profitable for them.
I work in a AT&T building. Not sure we're your getting your info but I know for sure AT&T does not loose money on any phone they sell.
Apple isn't giving anything away. When AT&T purchases the phones it's a wholesale price. The subsidy is what pays for the phones that's why it's actually figured in The price. This is how Carriers make so much money off of the iPhone and other phones for that matter.Oh, so the price subsidy just comes magically from nowhere? Or is Apple giving away the $0 iPhone 4S's free for you?
No, I didn't think so.

241 indicates poor retail sales for a specific model. The subsidy cushion is not for and does not support poor sales for specific manufacturers or for specific phone models. There are sales thresholds in place that trigger a two-for-one or just take your phone back.Exactly. The same applies for 2-for-1 discounts and the likes. The carrier or retailer picks up the difference in order to be able to sell a $1000+ contract. Actually two $1000+ contracts with these 2-for-1 deals. Samsung charges the stockists whatever it charges regardless of the final consumer sales price.
I don't like the curved sides in any of these mockups. If it was curved like the iPad or iPod, but all these mockups look like the iPhone is in a small Apple bumper.

You have no idea what you talking about I'm here building iPhone specific data centers for all the carriers. The iPhone is the driving force of this industry like it or notCertainly not. It indicates a competitive retail environment, and the fact that all carriers would love to see Apple kicked to the curb for not letting them provide their crapware on the iPhone as a custom firmware.
