huh!? I don't see how that could be possible - care to share any evidence?

Why don't you see how it could be possible? Apple makes the most profits in the mobile industry, they pay out the most to developers why is it so far fetch to think that carries do better with iOS devices. There are countless threads there are countless articles about how androids margins are razor thin and if you not part of the big three(Apple Samsung ect.) then most likely they are selling at a loss just to be in the game.

Leaks

I work for a major retailer... and more often than not, if the word leak is used, it's the manufacturer. This looks fake to me. But Apple is going to leak info bc leak is a buzzword and it's marketing. Also, it keeps the salivators satiated enough that it cuts down a small bit on theft and actual leak.
If they do a design overhaul, they will leak it a bit in order to socialize the design changes (get people feeling comfortable), before the announcement.

I really want to wait for the 6, but the 4S is driving me too crazy. I'll probably end up getting a 5S this week.

----------

While the screens are getting bigger the form factor is surprising thinner and lighter in weight than the iPhone 4S. I'm sure when the iPhone 6 comes out you'll be one of those fanboys who all of a sudden start screaming large screen phones are AMAZING! I'm on iOS because I can't stand Android and for some reason I still have a LOT of DRM music in my iTunes library that won't transfer, but let's face iPhone Hardware has sucked ever since the 4 series and it's broken antenna... I do assume they'll keep the 5C and 5s and abandon the 4/4s when the 6 comes out.

You're not even close. Stop assuming things. I already have done the larger phone screen thing and it's not my thing. Furthermore, thinner and lighter doesn't mean crap when the footprint of the phone is still gigantic. Your response is like those fools who think a phone that is 6 inches tall and 4 inches wide, but only 0.2 inches thick means it's small. The iphone 5 is my first iphone, so no, I don't jump around to the newest iphone just b/c it's available. The only reason I switched was b/c I wanted a smaller overall form factor phone w/ a 4" screen and LTE.

Right - APPLE makes the money....not carriers. And Samsung doesn't have a margin problem. Neither do other high end makers. They simply can't sell enough to compete.

8 times seems ludicrous.

So why wouldn't they do similar things with iPhones - which one-for-one sell more than any other handset in the world?

Just curious. Seems like carriers push Android phones more than iPhones. My guess is because of the control the carriers have over Android versus iOS. That and I think they get bigger cuts for selling Android.

Apple doesn't really allow that, and you are definitely right about the latter part of your post. Carriers love to push Android (and WP) so that they can break free of Apple's stranglehold. They hate the fact that they can't push their own crapware on the iPhones.

Tall and narrow like it's predecessor, it's like the skinny kid in school. A bit odd, but the Apple logo will sell it. Hopefully the 5.5" model will be built to normal proportions like other smartphones.

I'm going to wait until I actually see a real version of it to decide. I'm on the next program from AT&T so I get to upgrade every year so if this one doesn't impress me I may give android a shot for a year. I guess I'll wait and see what phones are available once September comes around.

I never said they had margin problems. I mention razor thin margins

There's nothing razor thin about Samsung's margins on its high end devices. Same with other high-end makers - though those other competitors can't sell enough to compete....
when you're selling buy one get one free your obviously not making any money! just got to do the math

For the umpteenth time, Samsung is not selling "two for one" or any such thing. The carriers and retailers are doing that.

I think this larger size iPhone is going to do well. I've recently passed down my iPhone5 to the wife (her 4 broke) and i'm holding out for the larger one to come along.

In the mean time, I got an SGS4 Active. 5" display, decent battery life etc etc ... I'm finding that each time I use it, I find the size very comfortable and right for me.

I'm also finding that each time I use the old iPhone, I repeatedly think I wish I could get this but in a phone the size of my S4.

So regardless of who came up with the larger screen format first etc, I think the larger phone will be a winner for me.

Why would it need to be that? The carriers lose $400 or so on every iPhone they sell, yet selling them is hugely profitable for them.

I work in a AT&T building. Not sure we're your getting your info but I know for sure AT&T does not loose money on any phone they sell.

Oh, so the price subsidy just comes magically from nowhere? Or is Apple giving away the $0 iPhone 4S's free for you?

No, I didn't think so.

Apple isn't giving anything away. When AT&T purchases the phones it's a wholesale price. The subsidy is what pays for the phones that's why it's actually figured in The price. This is how Carriers make so much money off of the iPhone and other phones for that matter.

Exactly. The same applies for 2-for-1 discounts and the likes. The carrier or retailer picks up the difference in order to be able to sell a $1000+ contract. Actually two $1000+ contracts with these 2-for-1 deals. Samsung charges the stockists whatever it charges regardless of the final consumer sales price.

241 indicates poor retail sales for a specific model. The subsidy cushion is not for and does not support poor sales for specific manufacturers or for specific phone models. There are sales thresholds in place that trigger a two-for-one or just take your phone back.

I don't like the curved sides in any of these mockups. If it was curved like the iPad or iPod, but all these mockups look like the iPhone is in a small Apple bumper.

I agree. In fact it looks narrow & cheap. It's the first iPhone that's ever looked cheap. The 5C was better. Then there's the fact that Apple just cannot understand that the tall and narrow display they're addicted to limits horizontal working space.

It's why Androids are so popular, less scrolling @ resizing the web page to fit the screen. By avoiding the tall skinny display like Apple uses, the advantage goes to Android.

Certainly not. It indicates a competitive retail environment, and the fact that all carriers would love to see Apple kicked to the curb for not letting them provide their crapware on the iPhone as a custom firmware.

You have no idea what you talking about I'm here building iPhone specific data centers for all the carriers. The iPhone is the driving force of this industry like it or not
