As soon as the 5.5" is released, Samsung is gonna find it awfully difficult to sell their S5. They're already selling them buy- one-get-one-free. It will be brutal.

----------

What's great about the 6 is Apple can actually release a phone that 10-20% of consumers don't like (the shape of it/ the looks) and they'll still sell 80 million due to the pent-up demand for a larger screen. I, too, think the rumored bumper look to be uglier than the 5s, but I still want the extra .7"

Where did you find them "buy one, get one free"?

Really hoping they have two screen sizes then. I'm a fan of the 4" size iphone. When I go for a run with the iphone strapped to my arm, I don't a monster phone bouncing around. I see people with S5 armbands on and they look ridiculous and uncomfortable. And unless they also have some better features, I see no reason to upgrade from my unlocked and jailbroken iphone 5.

This kind of comment is so tiring. Do you really think Apple will discontinue their 4" iPhone line when they introduce a larger one?

I don't think that going forward they will produce any more small phones. They may keep the 5s as their small phone, but if the numbers trend higher towards the larger phones, then say bye-bye to the small phone.

Apple overestimated 5c demand. People here are underestimating the demand of large size 6 phones. The world wants larger phones. The phablet is the de facto standard in Samsung's home country of South Korea. Things don't have to go that far, but people want more screen real estate. With the technology, that can be done without making the overall device significantly larger. Remember that there are 7.2 billion people on this planet, and only 322 million of them are in America (4.45%). The adoption of cell phone technology is spreading at a rapid rate, so what the US wants may no longer be decidedly relevant when it comes to phone size and design
(most of the macrumors users are from the US).

I do agree with the other posts that the home button needs to be rethought. Move it to the back, shrink it down, something. Maybe sapphire will allow them to eliminate it all together and move its' functions to the screen.

There should also be no reason that a new 64 bit iPhone 6 shouldn't come with at least 2GB of ram and the option for 128GB of flash storage. And if the capacities are there, the the apps will come to take advantage of them. I want a camera that will blow any of the Lumia cameras away. I know it's not all about megapixels, don't get me wrong. But Apple has rested on its' laurels for too long, thinking they can just put out a device telling the consumers this is what they want and expect it to be super successful. The competition is running circles around them with the advances they have made and are putting out in the market. It may dilute their brand and clutter the market, but at least there are options out there for people who want different things. We've come a long way from Henry Ford and his famous Model T quote.

Yeah will love to take advantage of that offer?

You missed it.

Ya I like the Note 3 but I eventually took mine back and went back to my iphone. I gotta stop spending. That phone cost me 830 bucks with tax and accessories. There were also minor things about android that started to drive me nuts. I did buy it thinking that I'll probably return it. At least I now know I would enjoy a 5.5" screen.

The Note 3 rocks. The size took some getting used to, but now that I'm used to it I couldn't imagine going back to a smaller screen. It will be interesting to see how the 5.5 inch iPhone compares, if it does materialize. But unless Apple's phablet has a great equivalent to the s-pen, I'm staying put. I know people here think it's gimmicky fluff, but after using it for a while I'd hate to have to give it up. Being able to pull my phone out of my pocket and write down important information right when I hear it has been a godsend.

lightning strikes...

yeah,
the screen grew soo big, it even needs a *wider* lightning connector... :-D

just look at the video comparison: 5s to 6... lol.

Only 2 sizes for 2014...

My guess for the 2014 iPhone line-up is:

- Entry level 4" iPhone 5c. This time will be 'correctly' priced by replacing the 4s. Same specs as the current model, no touch ID. Maybe a change in the color choices?

- Mid range 4" iPhone 5s just as it is, 100$ off current price, no big surprises.

- High-end 4.7" iPhone "6" (or Pro? Air?) Maybe more expensive than the current 5s pricing, as some rumors point.

So, there would be only 2 screen sizes and 2 iPhone models with a 'one-hand' 4" size to choose from.

I don't think Apple will kill the 5c now that they can cut 100$ off as the entry model.

There's another possibility I've though of, although it's not very likely:
- Apple kills the 56 chassis and move internals into the 5c shell (touch ID included), so they create a "new" 5c. Perfect for every day use.
- Apple presents 2 more screen sizes: 4.7" and the rumored 5.5" as the higher end models (focused on productivity, gaming and and media consumption).

The advantage with all models having touch ID sensor is that Apple could push it's rumored payment system for 2014.

These mockups looks cheep. I hope the real product will blow us with its stunning design :)

They could make more screen space if they moved the front-facing camera to the right of the speaker.

Sorry - Too little, too late

I really want to wait for the 6, but the 4S is driving me too crazy. I'll probably end up getting a 5S this week.

While the screens are getting bigger the form factor is surprising thinner and lighter in weight than the iPhone 4S. I'm sure when the iPhone 6 comes out you'll be one of those fanboys who all of a sudden start screaming large screen phones are AMAZING! I'm on iOS because I can't stand Android and for some reason I still have a LOT of DRM music in my iTunes library that won't transfer, but let's face iPhone Hardware has sucked ever since the 4 series and it's broken antenna... I do assume they'll keep the 5C and 5s and abandon the 4/4s when the 6 comes out.

You can get a Tab 3 now for signing up with Sprint's Framily plan.

They've been doing these bogo/giveaway deals ever since the GS5 came out. Had to do something after a bad Q4 last year and disappointing GS4 sales.

Buy one and get another Samsung S5 free????
I wonder if they count the free one as a sale?
No wonder their sales stats are so high. Talk about stats inflation.

They don't count sales numbers. They count shipped - as does everyone. So yes, any phone given away for free in these deals or sitting on a store shelf counts in those numbers.

That's misleading because Verizon was offering that deal for any phone. It was a ploy to get people into their corporate stores as opposed to 3rd party retailers.

I think I saw an ad for it the week the phone was released. It's no wonder they have such big marketshare, they are practically giving the phones away to brag about how many people have it.

"They" being the carriers/retailers. Now, sometimes these are in fact sponsored by the manufacturer, but 99 % of the time it's the retailer who is floating the bill for these promos. Don't know about this one, though, since Samsung has been very aggressive with their marketing.

Ok - but why would the carriers do these deals unless they didn't think they could sell them?

Either way you slice it, someone is footing the bill to get more of those devices out the door.

Well, usually so they can sell more subscriptions. Which is where the real money for them is at any rate. Especially on a subsidized market they lose money on every sale, so it's not a huge difference if they lose an extra couple of hundreds if that means that they can get two new $1000+ contracts sold.

They aren't concerned that the phones wouldn't sell well, they are concerned that you buy them from someone else.

So why wouldn't they do similar things with iPhones - which one-for-one sell more than any other handset in the world?

Just curious. Seems like carriers push Android phones more than iPhones. My guess is because of the control the carriers have over Android versus iOS. That and I think they get bigger cuts for selling Android.

I'm sure carriers make more from selling iOS devices, probably 8 times as much.
