Other than moving back home to Ohio, I'd like to check out the Pacific Northwest. I could go for either Oregon or Washington. If that turns out to be too rainy, I wouldn't mind Georgia or South Carolina.

I want to move back to Virginia (where I'm from). North Carolina is nice (Although where I live in NC is a bit odd to say the least :p)… but it doesn't feel like home ;)

I'm entirely happy not living in any state.... but if by some weird circumstances I had to move to the US then my choices would be NY to be near relatives or Oregon to be near beaches, beer, and mountains.... not necessarily in that order. NY and OR also have relatively progressive law makers.

The choice of NY or Oregon would depend on how I was feeling towards my relatives at that moment. ;)

I went and visited a friend of mine there. I liked it quite a bit. I've also lived in Hawaii. Wouldn't mind going back there some day either.

Been to Hawaii as a child so do not remember much of it. Going to Hawaii next year to visit my parents condo. I retire in a few years so we will actually be buying a retirement home in San Antonio. Will still keeps our roots here in Canada for our children's sake (heaven forbid should they have to move and lose friends LOL). But as a born American, I sure miss home (US).

Destin Florida is my first choice. But Colorado is a very close second

I spent a bit of time in Hawaii too. It struck me that there is actually more than one 'State' there, depending if you are on Oahu - with Honolulu, or one of the other islands. One is a big hot traffic congested place to live. And the others are pleasant, green, less populated...more of what is generally thought of as 'Hawaii'.

Here's a fun fact... Hawaii almost became part of Canada instead of the US. In the late 1800s the Hawaiian Royal Family, who had strong ties to the British Crown, were worried about US annexation. So they applied to London hoping to join the British territories in North America (Canada). Parliament was in recess or something, so by the time the request was even considered the Hawaiian monarchy was already overthrown. Imagine how history could have been different though, eh?

I enjoyed my time in Hawaii... but don't think I'd want to live there.

Destin is awesome. I've vacationed there a lot. I love my home state of Tennessee and would love to live there again if property rates weren't so high. Texas has been great for the past 10 years despite the heat. The problem is that property rates and the job market are so good here that it's hard to imagine living anywhere else. Although I can think of numerous places I would love to take an extended trip to and who knows, after doing so I might find that I would like it better.

This past week, my wife and I moved from Dallas to Colorado. We're renting an apartment for now while we look for a house in or around Boulder. I'm from Dallas, but my wife grew up in the NE and couldn't take the summer heat and humidity anymore. We both enjoy camping, hiking, cycling and skiing, she wanted more snow, I didn't want an entire winter full of snow, so Boulder is a good compromise.

Why Boulder? serious question

It is relatively expensive and I know I would have a hard time living there.

Hawaii.

I love the tropics and thoroughly enjoyed my time living on the island of Okinawa. I'd be happy with a little hut on the beach and an Internet connection. I'd love to sit there everyday under the palm trees and enjoy the ocean breeze and sunshine.

That's where my wife's new job is. Alternates are Louisville, Lafayette, Longmont and Arvada. Lyons and Erie are too far away.

Boulder, for what it's worth, has a very similar feel to our old neighborhood in Dallas.

I wouldn't mind someplace a bit less hot and muggy than south Louisiana. Preferably someplace semi-rural. I haven't thought seriously about it so I don't know where I would be interested in moving to.

Just don't get too close to my shack. I'm a pretty wild and crazy guy !!

:p

I loved it over there while we were at Pearl Harbor.
The only problem is one tends to become a bit claustrophobic and miss the states.

No worries there! :) I should hope there is plenty of beach for all of us.

Now I've heard that Hawaiians take offense to people from CONUS saying things like they miss the States or back in the states, when Hawaii is a state. Since I've never been to Hawaii, is that true? I imagine it would be.

Eh. It depends. Not really in my experience. Well, not any more than they get offended by anything else if you're not a "local".

The Native Hawaiian/Samoans don't like it but the flatlanders say it all the time. I have a few friends that live over there and they love it but do like to come back to the states every once in a while.

Up until a few years ago there was one island only natives could go to. I forgot the name.
