The Native Hawaiian/Samoans don't like it but the flatlanders say it all the time. I have a few friends that live over there and they love it but do like to come back to the states every once in a while.

Up until a few years ago there was one island only natives could go to. I forgot the name.

I could easily live there and not have a burning desire to come back to CONUS, though I am sure I would on occasion. I just really love the water, the remoteness of the islands and the heat and humidity. I don't even mind that the COL is higher there. One of these days, I do hope to move there and live, how do they say it? Happily ever after.

Oh, you don't want to say that...it only appears in fairy tales. And the hope is that this is can become a reality!:D

... I could go for either Oregon or Washington. If that turns out to be too rainy, I wouldn't mind Georgia or South Carolina.
What many people don't realize is that there is the famous 'wet' side and the less famous 'dry' side to both states. One side is a rain forest, and the other side is a desert. And in the middle is alpine.
Hawaii would be fun but I like my road trips too much!

No worries... Hawaii has an interstate highway system. Seriously. Think about that. ;)

I quite literally can't imagine a scenario where I would voluntarily move away from Texas.
Funny, I quite literally can't imagine a scenario where I would voluntarily move TO Texas!

But if I had to really pick....Park Ranger at Yellowstone (Wyoming). Coolest place on Earth.

Other than that, like a normal city setting where I have a desk job? Any state that's legalized gay marriage (not because I'm gay, but because I want to be somewhere progressive).

I'm from Nebraska. Born and raised there. Parents born and raised in Oklahoma. So I spend most of my life between Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. The thing that hurt me there was how landlocked it really is (and the entire midwest, in general). Closest beach is Galveston, TX. Plus the weather is on both extremes: hot and humidly hot, then severely cold in the winter.

With that, I moved out to Vegas (yes, big change of pace). Nevada actually turned out to be really nice, despite it being high desert. When you get sun hitting places like Redrock Canyon, it's very beautiful..

But I missed trees and grass (face it; trees in Vegas come in on flatbed trucks from Palm Springs, and grass is only seen on a golf course! ;) ) So I wanted the best of both worlds. Moved to Sacramento (actually near Folsom). Mountains outside my window, Desert on the other side of that, and I have trees and grass.

My only problem: Cost of Living. It isn't as high as SFO, Los Angeles, or San Diego, but compared to the Midwest, it's high. But I find myself missing more of that majestic scenery, which while everything Miur mentioned is true, there is something different about it slightly east.

If money weren't an object, I'd actually choose New Mexico. Less hectic of a pace, but best of all three worlds: trees/grass, majestic of the mountains and desert, and mild temps. Cost of living much lower.

After that, Oregon. Then from there... well, Bon Jovi said it best: Who says you can't go home?

BL.

Nice teaser. So tell us, where is it in NC that is a bit odd to say the least?

In Edenton (in northeastern NC). It's odd to me because of the mix of people… and the town is nice, but I'd have to say that about half of it (not trying to be rude here) is kind of in the projects and some not so good stuff goes on there. I guess I'm just not the kind of small town type of person :p and I guess I'm still not used to living in the country (moved here about 9 years ago from Norfolk, VA).

It's also interesting to my how diverse this place is… the town is about half white and half black, but when you get to know a lot of the people I'd say about 30% of them aren't from here. I've met people from Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Georgia, New Jersey, Hawaii, even places like Japan. And then of course you have the whole set of people who are from here, and I't's kind of nice to have the variations in people. ;)

colorado. I've been there once and thought it was gorgeous. It also gets four seasons, which I don't have the luxury of having. Also... some recent laws make it a friendlier place if you know what I mean.

State would be Virginia, beautiful state and family and friends there, gimme a nice size piece of land country side and I would be so happy.

Came from Virginia and live in Colorado by choice. Love it here but miss the trees, beaches and, oddly, rain back east. Don't miss the awful traffic and rude road rage angry people however.

I went to university in Tennessee (MTSU!) and while the people were the friendliest I've known it's awfully drab and rains a ton. It's just not very pretty.

I visited California once and wasn't all that impressed. Besides most of the transplants here are from there and can't afford to live there anymore. Most would move back though.

My wife has family in Washington state and wants to move there (I wouldn't mind as its gorgeous). I've got a lot of family in Florida and would love it there but my wife is afraid of hurricanes. My grandmother's home was nearly destroyed by Andrew so there is merit.

My in-laws have two timeshares in Hawaii, one on the big island and one on Kauai (my fav), and the cost of living there is outrageous. Since we're inheriting one of the timeshares I'm in no rush to move there as its pretty remote.

Not really interested in any other states ... although I'd love to live near the outer banks if I had more family and friends close by. Sunset beach is my favorite place to relax. Fond, fond memories of family vacations there.

Out of everywhere I've been I'm most likely to move somewhere in Washington as my in-laws are retiring there (back home) and my wife desperately misses them. That's fine with me as they're pretty darn awesome in-laws.

I'd rather just stay in Michigan... call me crazy.

I've previously lived in Chicago and Rome a bit, so I'll pass on Illinois and Italy isn't a state :p

Probably Pennsylvania - Pitt or Philly - or Cincinnati, Ohio. I've been down there a few times visiting some friends from college that live down there. Pretty cool place, manageable cost of living, and better climate.

Since Toronto isn't in the States, I'll vote for New York. Specifically, the city. People, diversity, opportunities, engaging. Concrete instead of grass. Public transportation. Get me far away from the rural lifestyles and nestled into this.

Hawaii.

I love the tropics and thoroughly enjoyed my time living on the island of Okinawa. I'd be happy with a little hut on the beach and an Internet connection. I'd love to sit there everyday under the palm trees and enjoy the ocean breeze and sunshine.

You must like the multiple Typhoons that hit that island every year.
