what about trade-ins?

Sorry if I missed it, but I've read tons of these threads and I haven't seen a definitive answer.

What if you want to trade-in your current iPhone to upgrade and buy a new iPhone that suddenly becomes available for pickup at a local store. Can you reserve and "buy" the phone online at apple.com "for store pickup" just leaving your credit card information, but then when you go to actually pick up the damn phone, take care of your trade-in process at that time and receive/pay with that apple gift card credit and THEN pay the rest with your credit card?

I've seen the question posed a few times but no answers.

Man I was planning to sit this one out and let everybody else go crazy jockeying for the new iPhone, but then decided I need to upgrade and now it's a must-have. When Apple gets you they get you good.

I was told by Apple rep that you order online and pay then when you get to store to pickup they will basically return the phone, refund pmt and then you repurchase and they give you the credit off the price for your trade and you pay the lower price.

Preordered on the 12th with apple.com. Apple Store opened @ 8:00am.
Arrived at 8:05am with two separate lines for preorder and walk-ins.
Enormous line for walk-ins and was first in line for pickup. I left the mall and was in my truck by 8:15am.

Just to update. I posted a 2hr estimated wait. It was probably 2hr 30min in total. The last 30 min breezed by though since I was actually in the process of getting my phone.

The thing that annoyed me is that they seemed to pull just as many people from the non reservation line as they did from our pre order line. I feel they should have given us some sort of priority over the other guys.

Might call apple just to give them my input. Maybe they'll throw a case my way or something if I'm lucky.

I agree that sort of grinded my gears. I'm not saying don't help the regular line, but having in store pickup people wait in a long line as well sort of defeats the purpose. My experience did not meet my expectations.

I placed an order for a phone for in store pickup before the store closed - 1 hour prior. My order is still processing. I called the store who told me "we can't tell you anything" and they suggested I call applecare who said "we will call the store for you"..... they called the store.... and came back to the line and told me "we can't tell you anything about the inventory"

I am wondering if anyone else is stuck in this headache with online orders for in store pick-up.

The store is Willowbrook Mall, Houston, Texas.

Hoping to grab this device today.

Suggestions on anything else I should do?

I hope everyone is having a great day.

I ordered a phone for pickup around 8:30 PM last night (store closed at 9 PM) and received a "Ready for Pickup" email about 1-2 hours later, after the store had closed.

I never got anybody at the store to pick up the phone to answer any questions, but the pickup process went without a hitch. Line of about 10 people when I got there.

It's weird that the website would allow you to order but still be processing. I don't think they send you a "Ready for Pickup" until they have put a phone on hold for you. When I picked it up there was a sticker with my name on it.

Anyone going to do their in store pick up today notice large lines like on Friday?

Alton Brown Tweeted this earlier today, not sure if he was in Atlanta or traveling.

I ordered yesterday around 11:45am and had my phone by 2:00pm. Here is what I posted on another thread:

I decided to go ahead and upgrade today. I got to my local store around 11:25, they open at 12. The line was probably about 75 people long. While waiting in line is used the Apple Store App to order a 64gb 6 in white for in store pickup. I went home to eat lunch and watch football. Around 1:00 I got the email that it was ready to pick up. There was no line for pick up, but still a line of about thirty walk in customers. After I checked out I saw a guy who was about 20 ahead of me in the morning line just getting to talk to some one.

TL, DR: order online for store pickup instead of waiting in line.

I'm in the same situation as you. I was able to put an order through on sunday and it said available to be picked up a store. Its been over 24 hours and no notification to pick up at all. Called apple an no one seems to know whats going on.

currently in the same boat- was expecting a "ready" email within 2 hours, but still nothing (9 hours later). store's not open yet, so maybe they have yet to open up their latest shipment, or they're still waiting for the shipment.

I'm just hoping there wasn't an error in the reservation system. There was a couple post that I read and they say they went in to pick up to find out there was a mistake.

Crossing my fingers for a notification today

aaand I just got the email, 4 minutes after the store opened. hope you hear from them soon!

Stupid question time.

Tried to reserve a Verizon 6 Plus for in-store pickup on Saturday. In the Pickup Details section, I didn't see the "Someone else will pick it up" option that, from everything I've read, is supposed to be there. It had already filled in the name of the primary account holder, and I just didn't see the option anywhere. Is this a Verizon limitation?

Also, while I'm authorized to make changes to the account I'm on, a read of Apple's policies seems to indicate that when picking up, an authorized user's ID must match the primary billing address on the wireless account. Is this correct? If so, that would mean I'd have to make myself a pickup contact...and thus back to the original question.

Very confusing, and it seems like Apple has the most restrictive pickup policy in the industry if I'm reading all this correctly.

Just placed an order online for pickup as I have been to the Apple Store too late in the day for the last 2 days to get in line. Hopefully, this works, because I've been really frustrated the last 2 nights trying to get one.

Also, looking for some info on this. I am not the primary account holder, but I am an authorized user on the account (AT&T).

How are you able to pickup the phone online? Everytime I check it is unavailable.. I even have been using a few website to send me emails and have the turtle grid system up. I have yet to see them be available for instore pickup in the last 4 days
