I also asked if i would be guaranteed to get my preorder tonight if i waited on the line after work and they said the store closes at 9 regardless. So if you're still waiting for the preorder pickup when the store closes then you'll have to come back.

At some point they have to sell out of phones for the people who just waited in line hoping for one. Maybe that will free up people to go and work on the preorder line so it'll move faster.

Had the same experience, I'm thinking the line after work is going to be one of 2 ways. Either a complete and total mad house, or it will be emptied out. When I left after my lunch break (I was there for an hour and half), the preorder line in the tunnel was empty. I'm HOPING that this trend continues, but in all reality it will probably be worse later.

Don't be misled - there's no pickup line in the tunnel inside the station because the line is split: 1) outside going down 42nd street; and 2) in the actual store up the stairs. I just returned from Grand Central and it's still 2 hour wait in the pickup line. The employee I spoke to said he thinks the line will get longer later today as people come after work. He thinks they'll be the same through the weekend and won't be normal until Monday or Tuesday. In retrospective, delivery would have been better than pickup but I went by my experience with getting the iPhone 5 two years ago on launch day when I didn't even preorder but walked into the Grand Central store during lunch and was out in 30 minutes.

Great experience at the Atlanta Perimeter Mall store. I arrived a little before 11 a.m. There were about 7 people ahead of me in line. Waited about 20 minutes and got my 6 regular space gray with 128GB with no problem. Was out of the store with activated phone in hand by 12. Couldn't have been easier.

I was at the Lenox store at 11am and the pre-order line was 2 hours long.

I just cant imagine how two apple stores 15 minutes away from each other could be so different

Maybe the employee didnt know what a pre-order was when she pointed me to the back of the line. I left and will go back tonight to see if it is better.

Was the preorder line clearly marked?
Not really, but the staff will put you in the correct line.

That's what I figured.

That's what I'm hoping for. Should be a real breeze after they sell out.

I've waited in line twice today now, so I'm not new to the process today haha. The line in the store itself earlier (around midday) was around 2 hours as well.

Tomorrow I have all the time in the world so I'm not too worried about it then.

SoHo: whole process took about 45 min. Not bad for the preorder people. The others the line goes down the block and down Houstin to BWAY. All Asians.

Thats not bad at all, as Ive read horror stories for the regular line down there. Curious how W14th is going for pre-order pick up. I'm heading over there soon

Pickedup a 16GB Silver Iphone Plus and i was 6th in line. The sales guy took forever to get everything processed and went back to get my 64gb and he came back with a bad news saying sorry he ran out of 64 so i got the 16gig, but ill be on a search for a 64gig soon.

I even complained to ATT about it and att credited my account for all the problems i encountered this morning. Since i was promised by the sales guy for a 64gig and he screwed up big time - Guess nervous launch?

I ran into a bit of a snafu as well. Managed to get into the store at 8:00 sharp and provided with my 6 Plus. But then when the Apple Store employee tried to activate it, she constantly got errors. Ended up having to consult an AT&T representative, who in turn had to webchat with a technician (turned out to be a problem regarding switching my unlimited iPhone 4S plan to an unlimited 4G LTE plan, and maybe some other system stuff).

Ended up taking nearly an hour. I was kind of hoping they'd give me a free case for waiting so long, lol. But I suppose I can't complain; at least I got the phone I ordered.

I guess fortunately the 5th Ave store is 24 hours so if it is a very long line I won't have to worry about the store closing before I could get it. Although, I'm not sure I really want to be waiting hours and hours to pick it up. If it's really bad I guess I'll just go back tomorrow morning.

Arrived and walked right in. Phone in hand in 5 minutes. Kept getting activation errors due to apple. Had to cancel order and have someone manually reset the upgrade date. Took 2 hours to complete. Was fun talking to all the reps and apple employees talking about the snafus over the course of the day.

Unless things have changed since this morning @ opening, things were running very smoothly there. Once the doors opened (and at that point there were 50 or so people ahead of me) I was in and out in about 30 minutes.

At 5th now. The pre-order line they said is 30min.

I'm sure they have their stuff together there. GCT was a joke. The staff couldn't even tell me where the right place was to go for pre-order line. Had to ask 5 different employees before they sent me to the right place.

It seems to be pretty organized. They're making everyone wait outside. I just got into the store and there's more queuing so we'll see how much longer.

From joining pre-order line at 8:15 AM to walking out the door it was about 20 minutes. This was at the Memorial City Mall Apple Store in Houston.

Absolutely a breeze at 5th Ave, NYC (shocking, I know.) Maybe 20-30 people in front of me, waited 15 minutes, was out in another 15. I was expecting to wait hours!

Let me know what the wait is like if you can.

Sorry I had to dash to get out to brooklyn, but my dad got there at 4:15, we were out by 4:40. Don't know how he managed it as once he got there the line doubled, but the line was significantly better. Be nice to whoever helps you in the store you can tell they're strung out. We joked with the guy, and seemed to make his day.

Just left Grand Central - slightly over one hour (40 minutes in line, 20 minutes with a rep). The whole process could have been a lot faster if their device wifi worked (he kept having to redo parts of the transaction) and the process for retrieving phones from the back was less stupid.

Would never, ever do GC for a pickup again. They also 'closed' the store to new people while I was there as it was too crowded to move around.
