LOL I couldn't be happier. Best Buy took a slight hit to today's PCHO budget. They were already at 115% on the day. They'll be fine. And again, I spoke with all parties involved (including the GM and the kid who mis-priced the MBP) who are hardly sweating it. "Evil" is a stretch...

Hmmm...you seem to know the internal Best Buy lingo and their daily tracking of the percent to budget game. Are you by chance an employee at that Best Buy or another closeby?

Wow! Very lucky day for you! Its definitely not your fault what happened. Sucks for the employee thats potentially going to be fired, ha!

Close. I work ("worked", taking a new job in 2 weeks) for a large TV/Internet/Phone provider where I sell services in Best Buy.

Good find OP!!! :D

And forget about these lames trying to defend the employee who screwed up. I guarantee that employee has already made tons of shady sales to ignorant customers and probably shoved tons of warranties down their throats.

All is fair in getting a bargain.

That is absolute win! Your deal absolutely tops mine. I was able to score a 13" i5 for my cousin with an incase case, as well as 2 year accidental coverage plan for $900. Guy worked for the Project Team and purchased the computer and later realized he wanted the 15" version instead, so he quickly posted an ad on CL and I snatched it up. Battery had nothing but a few cycles on it, so it was still fairly new.

Congrats on the machine.

Customer bought a new 15" MBP i7 2.0 Ghz quad core ($1,799) this morning from my local Best Buy. He returned it hours later, claiming "the operating system is too different.. don't like it."

It was placed back on the shelf as an "open box item", priced at just $1,080. A Best Buy customer service person mistankingly thought it was the 13" i5 and marked it down 10% from the 13" retail price.

I saw it just minutes after it was brought out and snatched it up immediately. After 2 manager approvals for the price override (and a potentially fired BB employee?), I'm a proud owner of a 2011 Macbook Pro 15" i7, for under $1,100!

The question I have is - the 13" i7 which I purchased from the Apple Store just 2 days ago, can I return that and avoid a re-stocking fee?

DOODE! thats freaking awesome! If i knew you I'd buy you a beer!

Bestbuy sells open box MBPs? I have never seen them...
Where do they usually put them?

Well thanks heaps OP. I am the unfortunate Best Buy staff member who got the sack today, from a simple mistake.

I pleaded with management to let me stay on.. Hell Ive been true to Best Buy for 6 years. Unfortunately I made this one simple, but costly mistake.. And it was purely the fact that it cost Best Buy money, management had to let me go... In the end, it was basically the manager or me.

I am pissed though, because it was proved as you say by two ther people.. Oh well, the little guys always lose out.

Thanks heaps.
ps. medical bill from my mothers hospital stay last just arrived - $23,700
At least she is healthy now.

LOL! Good stuff.

P.S: going forward - be more thorough. And thanks again! :p

Then add tax....You're close to $1200.

Amazon has brand new one for almost $1700.

I guess 500 is better than nothing.

Yeah, and the icing on that cake is that someone is fired because of your purchase Win/win.

Kudos

Of course you don't know that. As if he should have had them change the price?

Mac Mall is $1633. Amazon is $1714. But if you have Amazon Prime you get free two day shipping and Amazon has better return policies.

I chastised a guy over the weekend (or was it late last week) who bought an ipad 2 for $230. He paid cash for part and then was supposed to pay credit for the rest but the cashier inadvertently rang it up as paid in full. He knew he didn't pay the right amount and did nothing to remedy the situation.

This one is different though.....

Best buy priced it a certain price. Was it right? Probably not. But it wasn't just a mistake by the Sales guy who marked it, both managers approved the sale. In this case the OP agreed to a price (what the item was marked) and he paid that price. Anyone in the chain could have stopped the sale. This puts the responsibility of the error on multiple shoulders.

Just an update guys...

I just applied instore for a job at Five Guys down on East Pratt.. Fingers crossed.
