I was planning on waiting for M5 or even M6, but this RAM shortage thing is scaring me...Apple's RAM prices are bad enough, let alone with this.

My next Mac is going to have 64+, so it might be time. That and storage needs grew at quicker rates for me than expected. I wouldn't be upgrading just for the speed/graphics, but I am often pushing up against my 32gb of RAM and I already had to abandon my photo library to an external which I don't like. Getting Thunderbolt 5 would be a plus with the news of new Studio Displays also. Regardless, I wanted to wait...but the RAM prices could be insane. So I might pull the trigger on an M4 model.

Personally, I think this would be a wise move.

Assuming US purchase, at both BestBuy and Apple it looks like $2899 for M4 Max, 16/40, 64GB RAM 1TB SSD.

Best of luck.

At the earliest, things won't start happening until middle of the year with the AI insanity.

Not to say it will be resolved, but everyone (industry and Wall Street) knows there is a lot of stupid money being spent on a lot of AI that noone is asking for and very few chairs at the table.

I checked there first (before I posted previously) and found nothing more modern than 2023 macs.

If you're hunting for a refurb config, use a site like Refurb Tracker. You can do complex searches for specific configurations and then set to get a ping when it becomes available.

Stock cycles out of the refurb store daily, if not hourly. You have to watch it like a hawk to get a deal on specific specs.
