Not sure how to get youtube PIP working, what exactly do you do? I'm on a MacBook, so how do you force a right click and where? 2 finger tap twice? It only zooms in and doesn't do anything.

If anyone is trying to get PiP working with plex, the following AdBlock Plus compatible filter works:

app.plex.tv##button.video-overlay-btn

I'm using it with uBlock, and can now PiP plex.

just treid it in Chrome and its sadly not working:/ also someone mentioned before that it works in netflix :)

Find it a little annoying that PIP is limited to screen corners, on desktop it would make more sense to be properly free floating I think.

Open PIP: Right-click twice to get the regular Apple menu and enable it.
Moving anywhere: Hold down ⌘ while moving.
Jumping forwards or backwards in time: Is it possible?

Also: How would you compare PIP to Helium? With helium you get translucency, click-through, etc. Does Apple's PIP allow that? http://heliumfloats.com

Do you think PIP will come to Safari in El Capitan or is it likely to be a feature unique to Sierra?

I didn't know about this app, thanks for pointing it out. I'll be using it on my Retina iMac while Sierra is still in beta.

To answer your question, no, Picture in Picture doesn't have customizable opacity or scrubbing at least in this build. The controls are very basic.

I doubt it, being one of only a few major new features in Sierra (not counting all the "little things").

Meh, I think keeping it simple is better. When I enter PiP I know where the window is going, and if I don't want it there, I can flick it to another corner. I don't need to deal with a PiP window that has a position memory like the rest of macOS windows.

because Safari was freezing on me in El Capitan.. it was so bad I had to start using chrome :)

My Safari hasn't frozen a single time in El Capitan in months of heavy daily use (my work). I do however know that certain extensions or browser plugins can cause trouble.

I run Safari with Preferences > Security > uncheck "Allow WebGL" and "Allow Plug-ins" (aka no Flash or Java). This hardens the browser against attacks, and also makes it run much faster. Almost every website now detects the lack of Flash and serves HTML5 video instead, so I actually get a *better* video experience than I ever did using Flash.

As for extensions, I do NOT recommend ClickToFlash/ClickToPlugin. They're discontinued by the author and are totally unnecessary these days since most sites support HTML5 natively now. Their purpose has been well served, but the web has matured enough that they're not needed.

My extension list: 1Password, DirectLinks (makes Google search result links non-tracking and easy to share with others), Adguard AdBlocker (a native Content Blocker API extension, and the best one of them all by far), and Tampermonkey (to run Greasemonkey scripts).

My browser stability and uptime is 100% on a Mac Pro 5,1, latest Safari, latest El Capitan. No other browser has ever been as slick and fast and stable as Safari is for me. :)

See my post above. Hold down ⌘ and you can move it anywhere.

Aww ****. Lack of opacity can be tolerated, but lack of scrubbing!? That's insane.

[doublepost=1466515805][/doublepost]This is an outrage. :p Everyone on the Sierra beta: Please make use of the "Feedback Assistant" app to beg Apple to make it possible to scrub the Picture in Picture videos. We can't let it ship to public without that feature. Alternatively, do what I did and submit it via https://bugreport.apple.com/ under "OS X".

This is what my bugreport looks like:

It can't be allowed to ship without scrubbing... This isn't iOS.

I cannot wait to use this feature. Looks awesome. I always listen to daily show/last week tonight videos while I work. Can't wait to pop them in the bottom corner and keep working!

Speaking of never again installing Flash...

https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/20...vulnerability-is-being-exploited-in-the-wild/

Adobe is promising a patch “as early as June 16” for a critical Flash vulnerability, CVE-2016-4171, that’s being exploited in-the-wild. All Flash players in all browsers on all supported operating systems (Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Chrome OS) are at risk.

When it’s released, the patch will mark the fourth such update in four months following similar releases to combat Flash 0-days in March, April and May 2016.

The announcement maintains Flash’s unofficial but thoroughly deserved status as the go-to destination for criminals looking for browser-based exploits.

Sadly, this year’s run of four updates in four months isn’t the worst it’s been.

Back in January 2015, Adobe fixed nine Flash vulnerabilities in its patch Tuesday update on 14 January and released three more emergency updates on 23 January, 24 January and 3 February.

Past performance isn’t necessarily indicative of future results but anyone still using Flash needs to ask themselves: just how bad do things have to get before I’ll remove it?

Yes, there are still some useful things that rely on Flash, but events are catching up to them fast.

iOS users have lived without Flash from the get-go. Google’s Chrome browser is hurriedly bundling Flash towards the exit door, and Apple is set to follow suit in its upcoming version of MacOS.

To remove Flash follow Adobe’s guides for uninstalling Flash from Windows and Mac OS X.

Apple has replied to my ticket and marked it duplicate of an open ticket. Meaning: They are aware that people want scrubbing in the PiP mode in Sierra, and they have decided to keep the older ticket OPEN which means they haven't dismissed the idea.

Thanks for this! I was pretty upset plex (my whole reason for pip) wasn't working.

this is a really handy feature, glad it's coming.

you can also do this with HTML5 Youtube videos (& I assume HTML5 video from elsewhere) with VLC but it has all the controls visible (it would be kinda nice if they autohid).
