I always hear of people Exposing for the sky and the Ground...
How do you do it?
Camera model: NIKON D40
Date/Time: 2006:12:31 14:50:59
Flash used: No
Focal length: 19.0mm (35mm equivalent: 28mm)
Exposure time: 0.0005 s (1/2000)
Aperture: f/22.0
ISO equiv.: 400
Exposure bias: -0.33
Whitebalance: Auto
Metering Mode: center weight

I myself would be more worried about the noise that you have amongst the trees on your picture, rather than the exposition.

For your question, I personnaly usually check around the picture I want to take by pointing the "centre" at different elements to check disparity in exposure. I use center/weighted metering. I just wave the centre around the frame I want, and then re-frame, adjusting the shutter speed generally.

Hope that helps. I'm sure you will get more useful advice, but that was just my ".02$"

This is a picture I took at the Butterfly Museum, I went with the family and I thought this was a nice panoramic shot. About 4 or 5 pictures total.

I apologize if this post is inappropriate, but I know you are the experts on this subject. I have an old Minolta with 28, 50 and 150 mm lenses. I also have filters and a flash. The only things I dislike about my setup are the cost of film/development and the delay between taking the picture and seeing the results. If I were to buy a digital replacement for my current setup, can you make recommendations for me? I know next to nothing about digital cameras, but I do know that the mm lengths for lenses seem different and the models I've looked at seem not to have a manual shutter speed (for nightime photos). Any and all recommendations will be greatly appreciated--you'll be helping me with my new year's resolution of getting back into photography.

P.S. You can respond privately if you like--I really don't wish to hijack this thread

If you want to keep your lenses, your "option" is the Sony Alpha 100.

Ok, here's mine for today. Taken at the zoo.

Another from St. Augustine... think I should have cropped out that tree on the left since I didn't bother to get the whole tree in the shot.

o: How did you know it was automatic! =)

I need to stop playing with the VW flip-key...

I am a VW guy, and run a European car related site (in my sig).

Your MFA display (the red display in the center) looks like it has a bar directly under the outside temp (middle bottom) which normally has PRND4321. That only exists on cars with an automatic :)

The manuals display a couple more lines of information in it's place :)
