Does any one ever use the tipronic/steptronic/automanual transmission thing when you drive you car.

I rarely do. Its nothing like driving a standard. No clutch, you don't have to take you foot of the gas, it won't let you redline, and it will auto downshift.

The only time I use it is occasionally for highway passing. If I shift down before I pass its faster, smoother, and more fun. 🙂

The TL has it, but i haven't used it ... it's doesn't seem right, but i could see where i would want that immediate downshift (passing). It doesn't allow you to use it till its shifts into 2nd. It's nice to have the option though. The auto tranny shifts quite nice. i went to pass on the freeway yesterday ... 60-100mph with no problems; quik and smoooooooth. 😀

My car has StepTronic and its nothing like a manual but it can be fun.

I use it for burn-outs because it locks the torque converter, I can get some wheelspin that way. Having a torque converter locked in 1st gear while driving around residential areas without traction control while keeping the engine in the 5,000-6,500rpm range is quite fun. The car reacts to any input very violently (as in, it makes your neck hurt after a while), its awesome.

I've never used it for passing, I simply use the kick-down switch for that.

The StepTronic manual mode is most effective when traction control is disabled, once again because the torque converter is locked. Drifts and powerslides happen naturally.

Normally there is annoying lag during shifting but I've found that if I lift my foot off the throttle just enough, the shift will happen very quickly and smoothly. Same goes for downshifting. If I downshift without giving the engine any power, the car will jerk forward, the tires will screech and the car will begin engine braking. If I give the engine too much gas when I downshift, the car will jerk backward as if it was getting ready to catch some speed as the engine revs to 5K or so. If I give the engine the perfect amount of power while downshifting and get the timing right I can make the car downshift like a manual with a nice throttle blip. Its great. 😀

I want my next car to have SMG, but for now StepTronic does the job.

My Rover has an adaptive automatic transmission with the automanual and sport settings. The adaptive transmission is supposed to adapt to your driving style to shift at better times. I haven't really noticed any difference in the shift patterns though. The sport mode is fun too for accelerating because it shift the when the engine gets to a higher RPM than normal.

I do like the automanual for the highway passing especially in an SUV. It makes it faster and smoother.

My 2001 Rangey has the coolest shifter ever. Its called an H-Shifter. One side is 4WD High and the other is 4WD low (its always in 4WD). When driving it up a steep slippery hill in the winter is so awesome. Just stop the car, throw it into neutral, listen for two beeps, shift it over into Low Mode and select gears any of the 4 gears.

Bah. That auto stick [Chrysler terminology] or whatever you call it is a waste. It's an auto....theres not much fun to be had with one of them. I wanted a stick....and was going to get one, but that dealer packed up and left and I was stuck with an automatic. 1 2 3 D is good enough, you can't really shift up [other than from 3 to 4 going into D if it feels necessary], but you can downshift. Just make sure you don't go 1 too far and hit 1 while goin like 40....they don't tend to like that... 😉

Ok OK, this was a "Media Preview" but still, Smart V6 coupe (AKA Brabus) here in the US, on roads in Detroit Michigan 🙂 .

I would love to Autocross and Roadrace (Legal) this car if I could get my paws on one again. Last I hear, we don't get this great little car 🙁 .

I think the roadster one is pretty good looking, but I hate the little box thing. It looks like a Scion xB or whatever it is called, another refrigerator on wheels if you ask me. Okay that was slightly harsh, the Smart looks better than the Scion by a lot, but I still don't care for it.

That v6 roadster though, Brabus, would be quite fun for many a reason and the economy should be pretty sweet too 😀
 
Those Smart cars are way too pricey, though. They all are for what you're getting.

Another car you guys won't be getting --- Hyundai Getz. Blast those Accents or whatever you get in Canada and the US right now. When are they gonna get the upgrade? Even 5 adults can fit into my car. That's not to say that my engine is powerful enough to go fast with 5 adults. 😉 Also, the UK version of the Getz isn't as good as the Aussie version.

It only comes fully loaded, although ABS (which you don't really need where I live in Australia) and alloy wheels are optional. Everything else is included, even for the lowest model. And after paying all fees and taxes, I paid AUD $16700, CDN $14900, EURO 10500, £7100, USD $12700.

Oh, and I luv my car b/c its purrfect, LOLZ!!1!on!e!!

I like the Discovery the most out of all of them. I like its whole shape and it has this very strong appearence. The touareg is pretty nice, its interior is awesome. I like the Jeep, good reliable car.

Wow some of you guys have some really nice cars. I'm still driving my first new car which I purchased when I got out of school 5 years ago.
