My mom and I were close to the land rover dealership. I told her we should go look at the LR3. Surprisingly she agreed (she hates car shopping and our current land rover discovery is not very reliable). We got out of the car, and literally 30 seconds later a salesman was outside telling us all about the car. We walked up to the showroom and he showed us into one.
You might they are boxy and ugly, but in person they are really beautiful cars. Once you sit in it you will be amazed. You feel ensconced in the firm, yet comfortable seat, you have great visibility- large windows, big windshield, 2 sunroofs and 1 alpine window/moonroof. You really feel like you are in control and towering above everything (this is when the air suspension is at the entry mode- the lowest setting). Its very cool. You might think the interior is too bland for a $40,000+ car, its actually very good quality plastic. I have back problems and I found the seats to be amazingly comfortable. The third row seats have PLENTY of headroom, substantial footwells (many SUVs don't have them making your knees scrunched up), and there is a good amount of footroom and I have a size 11 foot.
I REALLY want one. Before we went my mom thought they were ugly, but after being up close and inside she loves it. She even said to my dad "If we get a new SUV, this is the one to get".
