Nope, not Griffin.

Is some generic brand I purchased from KMart here in Australia. Cost me AUD$35 (USD$40).

The back is fairly thick, and has a rubber like texture on the outside. Very solid though.

I have a thing against plastic/rubber. They protect against general scratches and very light drops on to carpets but the ones that are leather like vuscape have very dense internal padding which is very shock absorbant. To picture that, imagine a thick piece of sponge squished down to just a few mm thick, layer with some unbendable plastic all leather bound on one side with super soft lint lining on the other. That pretty much sums up the viewscape for me. Its the best compromise between style and protection for me. For me,

Leather > Rubber > Plastic > carbon skin > naked

Did the case slip out of her hand or did the iPad come out of the case itself? I guess that wouldn't be such a great "fit".

I believe while holding the case with iPad mounted and box, she some how flexed the case causing the iPad to dis-lodge from the case's mounting brackets. You can see from the picture that it isn't a secure design.

I'm NAKED!! WOOO~ * streaking iPad*

Soon though I'll have the following:

Stickeryboy extreme fit in dark copper brushed metal

And then an actual case which my mother is going to sew for me which will be similar to this one, but stuffed with a firm foam to help with shock.

I love the canvas though. I think it reminds me of a safari or some jungle adventure. Though I'm not sure I'd take an iPad on either of those.

This is good to know. My favorite case, the Griffin Intellicase has a similar clip in design on the back case but in addition to the four corners it also has lengthy parts of thze case that snap on both of the long sides of the iPad. I grab and go all the time with the case open in the typing mode. Due to your post I've tried shaking and flexing the case (over the bed of course) to see if the iPad might release with this case as well. No indication of any movement or release but I will definitely keep watch for it.

Thanks again for your warning.

I'm using the Targus Vuscape http://www.targus.com/us/productdet...weD9yZWdpb25JZD03JnByb2R1Y3RDYXRlZ29yeUlkPTMx with 3 in 1 stylus.
I really like this case because it maintains the new iPad's thin profile while offering solid protection. The magnet for on/off-open/close operation and the 2 level view points, help to create a good all around purchase.

I went with this case on launch day and then received an Incipio Lexington. I have since gone back to the Vuscape with its working magnets and excellent protection. I really like this case. Not to much bulk with nice looks and great protection. Nice combo in my book.

Well, I guess its no point of posting my case since numerous have it in this thread. Vuscape owner as well. I love it! Professional + Offers Protection + Sleek.

By the way, my magnets work fine. Everything is perfect with my case.

No problem I'm glad I could help.

There's no denying how awesome/value the Vuscape is.

I soooo agree.

Jeeez! Are Your iPads protected by Kevlar?! :D Almost like your going to take them to the battlefield or something :D I almost never protect my unit, but in the end I eventually bought after 6 months this:

And for me it's enough with protection :) I recently bought a protection for my iPhone 4S, but only at the back after have it "naked" since november.

Besides OCD with our iPad's, most of us also factor in resale purposes when choosing iPad protection. In my area here in Anchorage AK, the resale market is seriously aggressive for iPad 2's. I require my iPad to be in perfect condition, the day the 4gen iPad is announced.

These things don't scratch easy guys, and they feels great without anything at all

I have two leather smart covers that I really only use when I'm outside the house

I went cheap to replace my beat up Targus case. Poetic Slimbook 3 in 1, $10 w/ free shipping on Amazon... really $5 out of pocket for me since I used the $5 for $10 amazon credit from a couple weeks ago.

Too lazy to take my own pic, but heres what it looks like

Pros:
- Its $10.
- Fake leather or not, it feels and looks quite nice to me. Very pleased.
- Fits very well and lives up to the slim in its name.
- Solid build quality
- Has the magnetic on/off
- Has some business/credit card holders.. not really going to use it for that but maybe I can think of something useful to use them for.

Cons:
- Outside corners not particularly well protected. The case would absorb most drops but an unlucky one could connect pretty well with the corner of the iPad.
- Weight of the iPad when in stand mode is on the flap holding it in, iPad droops down a bit and can make some buttons hard to hit. Particularly volume. I secured it by adding a patch of velcro.
- Two magnets that hold it closed are raised up under the leather... kind of odd looking.
- I'd like a stylus loop, so simple/cheap but useful. I may add one myself.

All in all a decent case, but excellent value.

You are just lucky. My 2nd and 3rd new iPad came with scratches new out of the box on the backside. The new one I have is imaculate. Everyone I know that goes smart cover only has scratches upon close inspection. I also do not recommend placing your iPad down screen first on to a surface. I've read threads here and at XDA of screens cracking. Why escalate the possibility?
I agree the iPad feels good without a case. When I'm chillin at home I remove my case when I play Sky Gamblers:AS or RR2 HD.

It's not screen down..the smart cover is on but you don't even notice and I just flip it over when I want the screen up

I can't say for sure how it is here in Sweden, but many of my firends who do have an iPad X don't have much protection, actually some doesn't have that at all. My bro's girlfriend had armored her first iPad 1, but since she saw how "thin" it was (hehe) she gave up and sold it. Now she has iPad 2 and exactly same protection case as I, same color too :D

But I can tell you that I don't wear my iPad many times outside, nor do I take it everywhere I go with me. I mostly use it at my home. Maybe when I'll go for vaccation this summer to Croatia I'll bring it with me. :)

I wanted some proper carbon fibre for my iPad 3, and not just a skin sticker made to look like carbon.
A fair bit of eBay hunting eventually found me a solid carbon fibre back case that has a cut out for the Smart Cover, and clips on so that the glass of the iPad is perfectly flush, which means then that the Smart Cover works, and that it removes my greasy fingerprints from the glass every time I close it :D

Added benefit that its tough as old boots, it's rather cool, and it adds bugger all weight to the iPad.

Just the Smart Cover at the minute but ordered a graphite skin from Sticker Boy,

I also use this for carrying it about.

My case doesn't offer so much protection but I'm not comfortable holding the iPad naked. For me I use the iPad mostly on my lap and really need a stand to prop it up. So the stable stand position is more important than bulky protection.

i just got a Dodocase Bookback since Zagg still doesn't have a black Leatherskin in stock. I definitely liked my Leastherskin I had on my iPad 2 better than the Bookback, but its still pretty nice. Not sure if I will just keep it or end up buying the Leatherskin:roll eyes:.

I also have the Targus Vuscape...

LOVE it. For the money, it's very well made and offers total protection with smart cover features. Solid buy.

For travel, I bought 2 great bags from Timbuk2 out of SF. The Freestyle Messenger Mini and the Sleeve.

Both of those are great as well. Check em out...

using the Otterbox Defender for the new iPad, didn't post a pic since everyone's familiar with what it looks like.

At what cost?

Assume you mean this: Click me

Is it real and how much protection do you think it adds?

1. It is real carbon fibre (I have enough experience of the stuff to know - see the bike pic:p), and is laid up in a 3K weave.
2. They've obviously upped their prices because I paid less than that.
3. Protection wise I can't really say. Carbon is tough as old boots, but will only really stop the aluminium getting dented from drops, or things landing on it. It certainly won't cushion the iPad internals from any hefty drops onto a hard surface (but it will stop it denting unlike a skin). My main reason for having it is to stop abrasions from the iPad being in my rucksack every day as I pedal to and from work.

This is what I got for now. Kinda waiting to see what Speck has coming out. All I know is that it's made by Bytech. Actually found it on the floor at MicroCenter near their Apple section. No one could tell me how much it was since there was no packaging with this thing. A mutually agreed price of $14.99 was struck up and voila, my case for my iPad. Not too shabby and it does the trick for the moment.
