cars are for driving.

all of this **** should be disabled.
If you have ever used CarPlay then you would know that it will prevent you from using your phone while driving. Just music and maps services are available. (Same as radios and gps in cars these days)

I agree, Car Play is garbage

I'm going to assume you haven't really used CarPlay for any extended period of time...

Then so should billboards and other roadside advertisements. They distract from road signs. Paper maps should not be allowed in cars. A built in compass is a distraction. Why are we able to look at RPM's in cars with automatic transmissions? Changing radio stations with that little red needle and a poorly backlit interface? A hundred knobs to control heat and AC?

Try using a modern car with CarPlay, you'll find that it's actually much less distracting...and CarPlay functions can be controlled with Siri, which works better than any manufacturer's built in assistant.

Looks like there's some confusion about what AppRadio is here. AppRadio is a feature/mode that Pioneer offers that allows certain mobile apps to display and be controlled on-screen. It's an alternative to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Most (all?) of the head units we're talking about *also* support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Now why would any iPhone owner choose to use the Pioneer AppRadio mode instead of Apple CarPlay? Because Apple's CarPlay is pretty locked down in terms of compatible apps. Most notably, with GPS navigation apps. Google Maps and Waze can't/don't work in CarPlay mode. But Waze *does* (or did, prior to iOS 11) work in AppRadio mode.

The lack of Waze support (and other apps I use) in CarPlay mode has been a big concern for me, as I just bought a new/used vehicle that I'd like to upgrade the head unit in to support Bluetooth audio and speakerphone, and I'd love to have CarPlay, too. But I don't like Apple Maps. I use Waze. So if I upgrade my head unit and want to fire up Waze, it requires me to leave CarPlay mode altogether and go back to using my iPhone and its screen, which then defeats the point of even having CarPlay.

As are most things made by Apple, right?

I use ZERO of Apple's software on my Mac/iPhone except iMessage (unfortunately), the phone app, and of course macOS/iOS. There is a far superior third party software solution for all of Apple's rarely updated buggy abominations of apps.

Their hardware is good. Other than that it's all garbage, especially Apple Maps.

CarPlay is useless. Waze and Gmaps need to be on CarPlay years ago.

ETA: The WHOLE POINT of having a big screen on the dash is navigation. How in the HELL can Apple prevent Nav apps from running on the dash. That is way beyond arrogant it is clearly insane.

With iOS 11 my avic 7100 nex Bluetooth radio can no longer skip songs with the radio buttons or displays the song and artist on the screen(Spotify)

I have the Pioneer AppRadio 4 with CarPlay and it works fine with my iPhone 6s Plus running iOS 11. The AppRadio has been updated to firmware 1.18 which was available last month. No issues.

AppRadio is the name of certain Pioneer receivers. They are fully CarPlay compatible.

I don't believe that last claim is true. When I tried to setup my 6S+ using Car Play with my AVH-X2800BS it did not recognize the receiver. Unless you mean the reverse and the AppRadio app can talk to a CarPlay-compatible receiver.

I have the x5750 - it’s not mentioned in the affected units but it is. Hoping it gets a fix.

I don’t think my model has Car Play mode, certainly wish it did. Used Car Play once on a loan car and it was brilliant.

Blame Google for that issue. Making an App CarPlay compatible is not that difficult.

I’m having an unrelated issue in my Ford where when I ask Siri to play music, it no longer automatically switches to the Bluetooth audio input.

I have this as well on my 2015 Ford Taurus SHO - it has the latest Sync 2 (2015 was the year before Sync 3 came out). Have you discovered any fixes?

It might be my cable, but I did notice after updating to iOS11 and then 11.0.1 that sometimes when I connect the iPhone to the Pioneer 8200NEX it won't recognize it. Reconnecting seems to alleviate the issue.

I've been reading through the Avic411 forums, no mention outside of the AppRadio issue with CarPlay and Pioneer systems. I do hope there's a fix in the works. I suspect a lot of aftermarket vendors haven't bothered to make sure their systems work with iOS11.

No, I haven’t. It does switch on occasion, but very rarely. And when it does, it doesn’t play what I asked. I have no problem using CarPlay in our 2016 Escape Titanium, but my 2016 Focus SE just has the basic Sync without a touchscreen.

I figured out a work around today. Tap your sync button on the steering wheel and say “Bluetooth audio” and it will switch. From there you can use Siri hands free to play your music like before. Haven’t tested if 11.0.3 fixes it completely yet

I’m running on iOS 11.1 Beta 2 and it’s still not fixed. I’ve done the way you suggested before, but I honestly find it easier to just press the media button on my basic sync system and it automatically switches to Bluetooth audio. However, I do it find it easier to start a song or playlist using Siri Eyes Free and then switching to Bluetooth audio afterwards because if I switch to Bluetooth audio first, the phone searches for a random shuffled song on my phone and Siri fails a couple times until that song starts playing.

Gross incompetence. They should have known about this with beta one and had a fix day of release

I believe the gross incompetence is with Apple. Obviously they have not defined a solid interface method for carplay that will work with every device from now and for a very long time. Apple seems to have changed things, causing grief havoc among car makers. This is not the actions of a competent company. Apple's gone off the deep end, IMHO.

Does anyone know of a timescale for Pioneer to fix this? I've emailed their UK customer service twice but had no response. I'd like to think they are actually working on a fix but there's no word on their web page. Quite poor.

Have two App Radio 4 (SPH-DA120) and my wife’s is driving her insane as it shuts off about every 30 seconds randomly. Mine doesn’t connect. They HAVE to fix this it’s been months!

So it's February and still no update from Pioneer. They've likely abandoned their product and subsequently their customers who bought their AppRadio product. Not buying another Pioneer product again.

I got rid of mine and replaced it with a head unit with Apple CarPlay. AppRadio was a horrible, horrible solution that just didn't work even before iOS 11 came out.

While I disagree with you (it worked perfectly fine) they simply need an update to fix this and they should, it CANNOT BE THAT COMPLEX!

I'm not sure which head unit or phone you have but, for me, I had the 2800bs with an iPhone 5 then 6S Plus. And for both of them, running Waze would cause the head unit to be non-responsive: hitting volume up or down would either blast or silence the radio like I was holding the button down, or the head unit would take 5 minutes to load my contacts, etc. All while using any AppRadio enabled app.

My new head unit (NEX-1330) works with my 6S Plus without any hesitation, hiccup or pause.

I have 2 Pioneer app radio 4 units- bought both of them last year in December (2016) for both cars. A Mercedes and a Honda CRV. We both have IPhone X. Everything worked until this phone. Not a single issue until we switched. Not really interested in a new headunit within 2 years. They simply need a software update and vuala.

Long time pioneer buyer, I bought a 2330NEX with the intention to watch video from my phone over the pioneer’s screen. Which i understand is done over AppRadio... Now I cannot do that. Perhaps I should have purchased the kenwood...
