not a single thing wrong with the breed.

as far as that owner you linked.
The dogs were indoor animals and socialized, but they were a “little bit neglected” during the time leading up to last week’s deadly mauling, Sgt. Mike Blackwood said at a Monday news conference.

The 22-year-old left her pets with her dad because she was going through personal events, friends said. Blackwood said the dogs began living outside in a kennel and Stephens’ father “wasn’t taking care of them — it wasn’t his responsibility.” Eventually, the Tonka and Pac-Man were living out “in the cold.”

Does it matter? Most dogs would be thrilled to be reunited with their owner, not murder them in revenge.

...yet Pit Bulls and Rottweilers lead the statistics on deadly attacks. It’s not a risk I’d expose myself or children to.

see post 2. pitbulls are like glocks,

just about ANY dog with short hair get's the "pitbull" label.
we had pits/chows/doberman/rottweilers. NEVER had issues, hell my nephews rode the chow like a horse & she never bit or growled for that matter.
it's all how you raise them. I read in another link that the father basically starved the pits not just neglected them

Is this a gun fix? ;) The argument is not that it’s possible to own a pit bull and not get attacked, it’s a discussion of risk and odds.

I would never own a dog that could or would attack someone..
I'll take ANY pitbull over most chihuahuas/small dogs.
mom adopted this small 15 lbs turd with fur that strikes at anything that he doesn't like (except mom of course), little dog syndrome is real.

Yea but you can drop kick it, try that with a pit bull..

So you won’t ever own a dog. Good for you. I had 3 pitbulls. Only one left. Lost one at 14 and the other at 12. My little guy is 2

never had to drop kick a pit bull that I have owned.
Me either. Just worry about my lap. Since he is my 70lb lap dog. My pittipotamus.

My family owns a store for dogs. (Not a dog store.) Did are their primary customers, and my mother said over and over that she'd rather be visited by any large dog than a small one. She has been bitteb, scratched, and had her clothes destroyed by dachshunds and Chihuahuas, but only viciously licked by pits and chows.

We need not forget dogs are animals. To their owners the most loving and loyal animals. To others they may be fine or see them as a threat and try to defend. The owner has a lot to do with the way a dog turns out regardless of breed.

I base my opinion on personal experiences. Three very different experiences.

My neighbor a few streets over drives a big truck, shaved head, big arms, big ego, big truck, and a very aggressive dog. My wife and neighbor were in the street talking while out walking their dogs one day, and this guys dog jumped out the window of his truck as he drove by. The guy got out of the truck and tackled his dog, punching it, trying to get it to calm down. He yelled at my wife and neighbor to leave. The guy obviously had an out of control dog. The fact that he was punching the dog tells me he is rough with the dog, making it all the more vicious.

Second incident, I was taking our dog on a walk through the neighborhood on my bike. We turned a corner and observed three people standing in front of a house. A small pit bull came running around from behind one of the cars and straight for us. I stopped and attempted to turn around before the dog got to us. He stopped next to my dog who is a lab mix. They sniffed each other for a second and then the pit bull lunged. I made the mistake of trying to push them apart and got bit on the hand. Right through my finger. The owners just stood there with their mouths open. Afterwards the guy said he does not know why the dog attacked. He has three small children in the house and the dog has never been aggressive. I can confirm it was a pit bull because that is what the animal control classified it as.

Personally I don't blame the dog, I blame the owners. In my neighborhood a lot of people have dogs. I know this because I can hear them barking when I walk past. The point is I have seen the same people walking their dogs for the past five years. That's maybe 5 dogs tops. That means all those other dogs never get walked, ran, or interacted with as far as we know. I hear them barking in the backyards at 5:00 a.m. in the morning at 11:00 p.m. and night. Even in the heat of the summer. Dogs don't know how to interact with other dogs if they are never exposed to other animals. We are out walking a lot you get a sense of which houses have dogs. I personally know of three neighbors with dogs who told me they don't have time to walk them.

Last scenario happened a couple of weeks ago when I had to visit someone I did not know. They had a chain linked fenced yard in a not so good part of town. There was a pit bull in the yard just looking at me as I approached. The dog looked pretty tough. I called out to the owners from the other side of the fence and they came out and said for me to just come in. Well turns out the dog was the sweetest dog I ever met. Pit bull or not what a great dog.

There are just too many variables and situations to classify one breed as aggressive.

I did have a Chow Chow in the past. They are thought to be territorial. A neighbor's little dog got into our yard and did not make it back out. But thats another story.

It’s a banned breed in my country simply because of how powerful they are. Any breed can bite but pit bulls are a little different to the stature of a dachshund lol. We’ve had many cases where children have been ripped apart by family dogs who have never previously shown any aggression. This is why i’ll never understand why anybody would own a fighting dog as a family pet.

Pit bulls are a British breed and bred for blood sports and bull baiting. The sport is now banned and so is the breed and I support that to be honest. Lovely looking dogs mind you.

I agree that the owners have a lot to do with it , but the bred in characteristics of the dog are a big part of the equation and there have been cases where individuals of this breed were not abused but were involved in deadly attacks. The fact is a lot of appeal for this breed is that that they are fighters, tough dogs, but on documented cases have become killers and again they lead the statistics along with Rottweilers.

I am not a dog person. The last dogs we had were a white lab and some short legged shepherd type dog we could never identify (he was blind too).

Both dogs eventually died of old age, the lab around the time my son had been born. My wife was never able to give her full attention to the dog.

They have never been replaced and even though my wife is still more of a dog person than I am we do not have the time or disposition to give a dog the attention it needs.

So, Pit Bull, or any breed - no dogs for us. We have one cat left and that's more than enough. We are far more cat people than dog people. And both our kids have never asked for a dog either so there's that.

I'm not down with the way dogs get treated today, like they are people. They aren't. But at the same time, if you don't have the time or attention to devote to the proper care of a dog - don't get one. No matter what breed. Let someone else who has that time and attention to give have the dog.

[…] now banned and so is the breed and I support that to be honest.
Let me guess, you've never owned one.

What sickens me is that people will call scream racist if you call a kidney bean red, but it's all fine and well to not only place heavy prejudice on certain races but even drive them into extinction.

We have laws like that in some German states as well. Of course, none of those target the breed that leads the casualties (German shepherds), because they're the "good" dogs.

All I can say besides owning a pit bull myself I have also encountered many and rarely have I seen a more loveable and loyal breed.

In the end, it always comes down to the owner. Maybe we should ban stupid people, not the dogs.

Let me end with a picture of a typical vicious pit bull in its natural habitat. Viewer discretion is advised.

That’s like my baby. Here was the time I crated him without looking in the crate. Came back to this. Lol. All three of our pitts were around cats.

Both our dogs sleep inside because they ARE indeed part of the family, daily walks/cuddles/play time is what they get, as you can see in the video posted on post 5 I take them to play dates with Rambo and he looks like he can tear you apart , that bully is 70 lbs of pure love.

The key word here is luck. i have had good luck with Irish Setters and had several all my life.

my observation owning only Irish Setters:
Irish Setters are consistently unique. Based on this I THINK PURE BREED DOGS can have characteristics known to the breed.

Let me guess, you've never owned one.
No because it’s illegal here to own once hence why I said they are a banned breed. I have no desire to ever own one either, especially as I have two daughters under five.

There are quite a few in the country though and had quite a few serious attacks last year involving pit bulls. A little girls was scalped in a park up north, a woman was killed and had her face eaten in another attacks. They account for a disproportionate amount of deaths considering they are banned. People own them because they are tough looking but I don’t blame the dogs. We invented the breed and their purpose was for blood sports. Those days have gone now though and as I said I can’t believe people out there trust such a powerful dog around small children. Not a problem for me though, just supporting what our law states.

I wouldn’t own a German Shepard around children either.
