Mentally or physically? You have to remember, a lot of people on the internet are literally children.

The lower magnet is what auto-aligns and snaps your phone into the correct vertical position on stands. It also provides extra "grip" for wallets and power banks. While you dont need it, because QI2 pucks dont need it, it's a nice to have addition and really has no downsides.
LMAO, I love how petty this is, because Google and their hardware partners and Android users always love putting out commercials and comments about how Apple is so behind and how Android has had that for years. This is perfect. All in all, it appears the Pixel 10 is essentially gaining MagSafe, thanks to Google's rival Apple.
Apple introduced MagSafe on iPhone 12 models in 2020, so Google is five years late to the party.
I still don’t get what all the hoopla is about ANY wireless charging for iPhone. Wireless charging is notoriously very slow, many iPhones and the chargers get quite hot, and you still need to plug one end of the cable into the wall…why not just use the regular charger?
My rental car had a wireless charger and my iPhone was incredibly hot after about 20 minutes on it. Dangerously hot if you ask me.
but sometimes I and many others *want* our devices at an angle relative to the mount....![]()
And how it should be
This would be much better design as it would auto align to either portrait or landscape positions. And you also don't need the additional lower magnet to orientate items attached
Apple could have done this with Lightning as well back in 2012. It was a far superior connector (single sold piece). They’re decision backfired when USB c took over and they were ultimately forced to adapt. The design was given to the Wireless Power Consortium by Apple, for free and without restrictions, so it's now a standard.
Apple is also part of the WPC, and is the chair of it's board.
Standby doesn't rely on puck alignment, it relies on your phone being rotated. I can rotate a powerbank 360deg but if my phone is in portrait Standby never gets enabled. The puck being circular or square is irrelevant. But if you want it in landscape format, like you might want to use the standby feature, it doesn’t do that. Having it square would ensure it aligned whether in portrait of landscape.
I hope that google have implemented this standard. The Qi2 charging standard includes a placement magnet. It was announced as part of the Qi standard feature set quite some time ago, just no devices adopted it.
Hmmm…I’ve never heard of a snap on wireless battery bank. Sure, that is pretty cool I guess…depending on price and how well it actually works etc. I was talking about the traditional wireless charging stations that you plug into the wall. Thanks for the intro to wireless charging banksYou just snap on a battery and you're good to go….
SJ might have said that, but even at launch FT has never been an actual open standard.Once upon a time Apple announced FaceTime as an open standard. Would be nice if they went back to that.

Steve did say FaceTime was going to be an open standard. I believe the first time the team heard that was when Steve announced it at the keynote 😂Didnt they mean the video calls in that way to become standard? Sorry i dont know your age but i remember back in the day all we really used for video calls was MSN or Skype with a big ol webcam on your monitor. Video calls just werent a thing. Facetime-type of video calling really became the standard. I dont think they meant actual FaceTime to be industry wide standard.
The whole statement is so old that FaceTime from that era doesn’t even work anymore which really bugs me because I’d love to make FaceTime calls with my iOS 6 devices.
No. It was announced as open standard when iPhone 4 was announced, but due to legal and technical reasons it never came to fruition.Didnt they mean the video calls in that way to become standard?
