Seems like a decent phone, but unless Google greatly changes their market approach, it will continue to be a niche player.
I don’t think they will do that until they have everything set up behind the scenes to ramp up production potential to the level of demand they hope to court. I was frankly surprised there even was a Pixel 2 at all. I’m completely shocked at what they’ve managed to design into these very plain looking phones. I’m really looking forward to mine and comparing it to my trusty 7Plus. (Which has been a bit laggy and troubled on iOS 11 but coming along better with each update.)

My how times have changed - now it's Android users paying full price for a phone that's literally half the speed of iPhones.

Good times.

How exactly is this phone "half" the speed of an iPhone? You really believe that?

Wonder what Samsung thinks of Pixel 2 being labeled the best Android phone you can buy. :D

They probably could care less since Google sells about as many Pixels in a year that Samsung sells in a week.

It's a good product and it's using Google's strengths in data to make good photos.
Design, it's OK. Apple has done the same, but I like the refinements of the iPhone iterations.
At least this phone does not look like an iPhone anymore.

Pixel 2 looks terrible having those bezels without a fingerprint sensor or home button. The iPhone 8 has the same size bezels, but at least the bottom one looks like it serves a purpose with Touch ID still there (and the top being the same size for symmetry).

Pixel 2 XL looks better, though the LG pOLED screen is a slight drawback. I'd still rather have an iPhone 8 Plus than the 2 XL even purely from a hardware design standpoint. The metal and glass combo on the 8 is really underrated and feels super nice compared to my 7. I don't wish to go back to the iPhone 5 two-tone back style. Also, having rounded screen corners on a phone that still has uneven bezels looks absolutely dumb to me. At least in the iPhone X's case, this is done to follow the contours of the phone's edge itself. I honestly prefer either the X's notch or the 8's squared-off bezels to having unaligned rounded corners on the front of my phone.

All that said, if you're going Android, this looks like the best choice by far. I'm nowhere close to being tempted to switch, though.

Still more “wow” factor than the iPhone X. Apple dropped the ball with the latest iPhone. But what’s hurting their rep most is releasing iOS 11 with so many bugs. They should be ashamed and embarrassed. Seriously.

This is kind of what I figured, but I just can't get behind the design. Already outdated. Sounds like it's the best option for Android fans though so I think the Pixel line has a nice future. As they work to become more and more like Apple / iOS, it should only push Apple more.

They sold a whole million of the last Pixel.

I was done due to the Pixel 2 XL having grainy screens and washed out displays at the same time as having one of the ugliest bezel-less plastic looking designs. Thats a deal breaker for most.

Ars Technica says it's the same screen as on the V30 and their unit had The same grainy effect. Samsung is much ahead of LG in OLED displays.

iPhone 8 syndrome is contagious.
That's is probably why the iPhone 6, 6s, 7 and 8 all have the same design for the last 4 years.

Function over fashion any day of the week. Apple could learn a thing or two, especially on the MPB line from others.

Too bad that you have to upgrade to the top of the line to have it. I applaud Google's approach. Same hardware across the line, you just pick the size of the phone you want.
Well said sir

Yet most reviews (for sure the headlines) are touting these as the best Android phones on the market. Maybe that’s just because the tech media has strong Google bias.

If this is your priority than don't look at some numbers and look at pictures taken with both devices and compare them. iPhone 8+ pictures easily beat the P2 pictures. Of course mostly it's a matter of taste but I find iPhone pics also sharper

Yes... Differences in cameras are mostly mice nuts, that is if making compelling photographs is one's goal.

And that has very little to do with a particular camera, but so much to do with the photographer, his/her life experiences, eye, curiosity, imagination, and on and on.

The metal and glass combo on the 8 is really underrated and feels super nice compared to my 7.

7 Jet Black is better than 8 metal/glass. On the 8, the metal sides are slippery, whereas the 7 Jet Black has the same grip on the sides as it does the back. That said, all these iPhones are too slippery and I'd just end up using a case/wrap to add grip just to make them usable.

I haven't tried a Pixel 2 in person, but I'd be interested in how the grip compares to iPhones. Looks like another phone I'd use a [thin] case with, but hard to tell without holding it in person.

I think they are there for the front facing speakers.

LULz, Android fanboys slamming Apple for removing the headphone jack and then charging for an adaptor. Google does the same and then charges $20, more than twice as much, for their adaptor.

Apple's saving grace is that their competitors copy their bad ideas too, or they really would be in trouble: Google with the "Pixel" (instead of actually trying to market the Nexus which was a solid, affordable phone with "pure" Android minus the extra bloatware) and Microsoft with the Surface Laptop.

Galaxy Note 8 has the best hardware and second best software.

Pixel 2 has the best software, AI, camera processing and services but the hardware isn't as good.

I'd still say Note 8 is #1 and Pixel 2 is #2.

It's funny how these tech sites are only now being so vocal about how dated big bezels look. What a joke, because they looked dated years ago when Android flagships were already minimizing bezels. The only problem for these Apple biased sites like The Verge was that the iPhone X didn't exist at the time. They couldn't straight call big bezels dated, because that would be calling out Apple and their precious iPhone. BUT NOW we have the iPhone X! The Verge and other cowardly Apple biased sites can now finally exhale and bash big bezel flagship phones. Yay!

Substance over style. Thank you Google!

I own the original Pixel XL, haven’t had one problem. Software just works, Love the camera, Project Fi works for me. Wife has yet to upgrade her iPhone 6s, wants a Pixel now. Can’t say I blame her.

so is the 8 plus and it has been, in my opinion, the best phone i've ever used. It's okay to not have that wow factor to have an amazing phone to offer us.
